Writing a value in the ADO custom field which is a read-only

I have a custom field in the Azure DevOps custom process. The purpose of this field is to display calculated information only. The value for this field is calculated using the flow, based on the values from other custom fields. The error occurs when attempted to update the work item with the value for this read-only field. I am wondering if updating the read-only custom field with a value through flow is possible and if so, any help is greatly appreciated.

What is the error message when you update the work item

Do you want to update a read-only field value with Microsoft flow? Or do you want to update another field with the value from the read-only field?

Hi Alice,

I want to update a read-only field value with Microsoft flow. The name of the field is "Design Change Reference".  I have marked this field as "Read-only" in DevOps using the Rule. The below error message is from the Flow. 

TF401320: Rule Error for field Design Change Reference. Error code: ReadOnly, InvalidNotOldValue.

Hi @BuddhaM ,

The error message told that since the field is read-only, you couldn't update the read-only field.

I'm afraid that there is no any way to update the read-only field in Microsoft flow currently.

Is there any other way to write a value? I am wondering if the rule can be bypassed.

I found out that you can bypass the rules to update the field through REST API. In Microsoft flow, you can use "Send an HTTP request to Azure DevOps" action.
