"Apply to each" failure

Hello, all!  Power Automate informs me that this is a "new issue" and I should ask the community for help!  I get the following error when I test a flow I've created:

The execution of template action 'Apply_to_each' failed: the result of the evaluation of 'foreach' expression '@triggerOutputs()?['body']' is of type 'Object'. The result must be a valid array.

The purpose of the flow is to send the responses from a Form I created to a pair of other people in my office.  Here's what the flow looks like.  Does anyone have any tips on what I'm doing wrong?  Thanks so much!

Hi @ahhunter

try to use

array(triggerOutputs()?['body']) instead of body alone.

It will resolve your issue

This worked - thank you so much!  For other newbies like myself, I had to enter that formula as an Expression rather than as dynamic content.Capture.PNG

Thank you. This worked like a charm!

Hi @Nived_Nambiar , I have a similar situation but in my case I get this error:
The execution of template action 'Apply_to_each' failed: the result of the evaluation of 'foreach' expression '@outputs('Compose')' is of type 'String'. The result must be a valid array.

In my '@outputs('Compose')', I have this function - base64(outputs('Get_file_content')?['body']). When I try to put this in the "Select an output from previous steps", it returns the above error. Do you have any solutions for this

?

My issue is to parse sub-data of r65f94823d7e243abbe60ddba96e11acd.

In addition, this is a form upload file bydefault.

Hope that you can help me

What was the expression

Hi

The solution just worked on a simelar but very different problem. Thx

This solution led me in the right direction ... but ... my input was "Run a query against a dataset (Power BI)" ... In the Expression side,I typed "array(  " and then clicked over to Dynamic Content and selected the 'First table of rows'.   This worked!

It makes sense - treat the first table of rows as an array.  I think either the error message could have been more clear, or the input to an Apply to each Step could have been templated to wrap my input into an Array function.

at any rate - this is my first flow - so, I'm very grateful for this thread getting me in the right direction!  I was pretty close to giving up and doing it with excel macros.

I'm having a similar error, not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Here is my flow:

Hi @unathid

Write the expression under expressions section

@unathid - the input to the for each - as Niven N said - just needs to be typed into the Expression builder.   Then - the actions should be something you want to do with the array of outputs from your previous action.   It looks like this for me:

I am also facing the same problem. Kindly advice. I tried the array but I have no options on my expressions

``Error:  ExpressionEvaluationFailed. The execution of template action 'For_each' failed: the result of the evaluation of 'foreach' expression '@triggerBody()?['incidentUpdates']' is of type 'Null'. The result must be a valid array.``

Screenshot (325).png

Hello @Gift -   the idea of the For Each is that it will work on a LIST (aka array) of items.  Does the Microsoft Sentinel Incident item give you a list of incidents, or just one?   if it is a list ... then try typing "Array(" into the Expression side and then click "Dynamic Content" and select the output from the step you want to process.   (then type a closing ")" if necessary).

If Sentinel incident is a SINGULAR incident, then you don't need the for each.

I am also getting the same error, Here i am trying to pick the data from SFTP location.

error is / The execution of template action 'Apply_to_each' failed: the result of the evaluation of 'foreach' expression '@triggerOutputs()?['body']' is of type 'String'. The result must be a valid array.

Do you need a Apply to each loop here? Your trigger seems to be returning a single item. Simply remove the loop and keep the rest of the flow. it should work fine.

I have applied the loops actually as i need a conditional selection of text when different numbers are selected after the apply to each.....

Can you please explain a bit more that on which stage you are asking to remove it... as what I tried dint work.

You are using a 'File content' value in the Apply to each action to iterate through. That's a single string (base64 decoded content of the file) and not an array. If you expect the file to contain a list of values, you need to read the file first in some way to retrieve those values. Depending on the type of file, you probably need some extra actions before the loop.

You are a lifesaver! Thank you very much!

I'm getting a similar error.  I'm hoping someone can shed some insight for me.  I'm "VERY" new to this and I'm trying to create a field that is the current date so then I can use it in a formula.
