Hi there,
I always hated arrays as they get you a apply to each and make you flow unfunctional.
I don't want to use apply to each but want to get either the first data from an array or get all the values and split them.
Lets start with if I want the first item and I want to return the attachment name (the pdf):
This is a cleanup version of the body from a Parse JSON action:

I have looked everywhere but cant get it to work. I use the select array and can get the from and subject, but then I try to get the attachment it goes south.
Many thanks in advance as I have been stuck for a while

Hi @boby305
For demo, I have stored the json shared in question in string variable using Intialize variable action and then use parse json to parse json string to json object.
To get attachment name from output of parse json , i tried the below expression
first(body('Parse_JSON'))?['attachments']?[0]?['name']
Result was
If there are multiple attachments attached, i would suggest to try a loop , since value of attachments field is a list with each element representing attachment details.
You have to design your flow like this then
expression used in loop
first(body('Parse_JSON'))?['attachments']
Inside the loop, use compose action to get name for each attachment
Result
Hope this helps 🙂

Hi @boby305
Try this way
Assume the id is d9 which name has value termstore as shown below
After filter array to retrive the ID, use this expression:

@Nived_Nambiar really appreciate the time and effort put in to help out!
I have one final issue that its a little bit the same but different in a way.
I need to lookup values in the termstore. Again, I prefer not to use apply to each. Can I store the array in my flow and search from the output?
I saw some topics here that covert something similar but couldn't get it to work. Arrays are hard for me still.
Below is an example how the data looks like:
Hi @Nived_Nambiar,
Yes.
I have a condition that looks if the termstore label is already created/ present and if not it creates a new one. When I use the http request to sharepoint and the label is already present the flow fails. That's why I want to add the condition and also to learn how to store the array values and use a lookup/search to check if the value eq the termsstore or the value from the array contains the name of the input I am giving to the flow.
Hi @boby305
If i am right, you want to check if an item with name field value termstore exists in array , if it doesn;t exist, you have to create new one
right ?
yes that's correct. I tried using the formula builder but that doesn't work as it just splits stuff and counts the row where that word is. If I try another name it says it doesn't exist even tho it exists
Thanks.
Hi @boby305
You can try like this 🙂
For demo purposes, i have stored the value in a variable (string)
Step 1: use parse json to parse json string present in above variable
Step 2: use filter array to filter with respect to name field in json
Step 3: check whether the output of filter array has no array data or not using condition.
If condition, is True then in Yes branch we can add sequence of creating item 🙂
Hope this helps

Hi @boby305
see this
the output of filter array will give the objects whose name field has value termstore, if it has value termstore, then resulting array would not have zero elements in it, in that length of array element is not equal to zero.
while length is equal to zero, it means there are no elements satisfying filter condition.
Hope this helps !
Thanks in great part to your great help I managed to finish the yes part (if the termstore is not present go ahead and create is). I need to finish the other part if the termstore item is present. I can't managed to write an expression that grabs the matching id from my parse json.
Any idea how I can grab this information? The steps are clear I just need to grab the name and put it next to the id of that label ie. label name is google and id is 3123412421412 the output should be selected name + | + id
Many thanks for all the work and time !

After filter array to retrive the ID, use this expression:
@Nived_Nambiar I managed to get it to work after all!
I was looking at the wrong output that's why the flow failed.
But thanks again for all the help and I hope others that are struggling with arrays and how to use them have had a good lesson reading this topic 😀
One final issue I haven't figured out, I have a condition that gets emails. Some emails contain jpg. When I use the
Hi @boby305
You have to use filter query for this
could you confirm whether there would be one attachment in email ?
I already played around with that but can only get the first item, and that item is sometimes a jpg or a png coming from the signature of the sender.
Ideally I would like to get all items that are pdf (sometimes there are 2 or more) and maybe filter or select which one I want but if that's not possible then the first pdf in the email is sufficient. Also, not all mails have the second attachment as the pdf otherwise I could play around with [0] [1] [2] etc but you never know what positions the attachment is.
I have an action that selects the attachments part from parse json and the output looks like this:
[
{
"attachments": [
{
"@odata.type": "#microsoft.graph.fileAttachment",
"id": "AAMkA",
"lastModifiedDateTime": "2023-05-02T16:59:27+00:00",
"name": "Y_transparant.png",
"contentType": "image/png",
"size": 30243,
"isInline": true,
"contentId": "cidbbsdasd",
"contentBytes": "iVBORw0KGgoAA"
},
{
"@odata.type": "#microsoft.graph.fileAttachment",
"id": "AAMkADh",
"lastModifiedDateTime": "2023-05-02T16:59:27+00:00",
"name": "invoice20230169.pdf",
"contentType": "application/pdf",
"size": 39804,
"isInline": false,
"contentId": "blabla.PROD.OUTLOOK.COM",
"contentBytes": "RERE"
}
]
}
]
I tried this methode earlier, I don't like to use apply to each as this makes the flow work very clunky.
If I want to get just one pdf can I filter that out as well?
I think if we use the search query in get emails that we should get the job done right?
I don't find the query to get the attachments online and hope that there is one.
Hi @boby305
Sorry i couldn't solved this out for you. Actually when i saw ur question, i took it as challenge and was trying to solve it. I put some different ways like using xml but i was near to it but i wasn't successfull.
Could you share how u tried that, that would be great so that it can help others also 🙂
