send mail if new row in table contains R

I work in a green coffee quality control lab, every day our controllers fill in a spreadsheet adding R in front of the contract number if it was rejected, and when it's rejected, they usually have to stop everything they're doing and let us know, but sometimes it's too hectic and they forget to inform our logistics crew, I want to create a workflow that whenever a new row is added,  it will send an e-mail saying that contract was rejected in case there is an "R" in the beginning of  a cell on a specific column. Is that possible with flow?

Hi there - If your data and table is NOT in Excel, then you have a good chance of being able to trigger off of the update/add.  Where is the table currently?

Hi @edgonzales , our table is on excel, unfortunately.

I could make it so the data goes to a SP list if that helps?

Yes, SP List would give you the trigger "When an item is created or modified" and then you can filter on your field.  I think the perfect-perfect scenario might be if the data was in the Common Data Service because then you could trigger/watch a specific field AND have a bunch more flexibility on how the data works downstream.

Check out the SP documentation, though, and see if that works for your situation.

Thanks for the suggestions @edgonzales – not sure if you noticed, but I have very basic IT knowledge and am out of my comfort zone. Having that in mind, I believe Common Data Service seems like something I should study a bit more on if that would help my company, do you have any reading tips on where I should get started? I use a mac, our quality controllers use windows, would that be of any problem?

No to worry, you're among friends 🙂  I am not a developer and that's one of the reasons I enjoy this platform so much.

It shouldn't matter which OS you're using to access it since it's all 'in the cloud', and if you're planning on doing more work in Flow/Power Automate and Power Apps, then an understanding of CDS will definitely come in handy.

As for resources, check out this video from Jon Levesque and Sarah C.  Also, Pieter Veenstra has a great series on his blog.
