Hi, I created a ms-form quiz with 30 questions and all these are single select multiple-choice questions. My idea is to give:
1 point if the answer is correct
0 points if no answer is given
-0,25 if answer is wrong
For all questions only one response is correct.
I would like to create a cloud power automate flow that does for each question the above calculation and after that update a variable that keeps in account the partial result. So in the end, I can have the overall score of the candidate.
Anyone has any hint on how to do it?
0,25 if answer is wrong ?
Is this 0.25 if answer is wrong?
Thanks
If you liked my response, please consider giving it a thumbs up
Proud to be a Flownaut!
Learn more from my blogYes, that's correct. I found a way to calculate all this, but I think is not the best solution, since I have to repeat a conditional control for each question. So I guess there should be a better solution, even in the consideration that I need to update from time to time the questions and I should modify, by using this solution, all questions anytime. Too much time-consuming. I am thinking of another solution to better accomplish my tasks.
In the meantime, anyone has an idea on how to loop inside each question for response ?
Thanks
Yes you can loop through all questions and then calculate the answer scores accordingly.
Let me explain step by step approach. Also I hope you are trying the same via simmilar approach (may not be same)
I have used a sample like below:
Also, I have mapped questions to their correct answers in a excel file named Question_Ans.xlsx like below
MS Flow overall
MS Flow Step
Step 1: Trigger action: when form is submitted
Step 2: Get response details from form using get response details
Step 3: Initialize a variable total_marks which stores the total mark for the quiz
Step 4: List the rows present in Question_Ans.xlsx file which has correct answer details
Step 5: To fetch all questions (names) of the form, i am using HTTP AD Connector which helps to retrive web resources from services authenicated from Azure Active Directory
expression: concat(triggerBody()?['resourceData']?['formId'])
In this connector, before entering the details like above, select the add new connection as shown below
and then enter the details like below
click sign in and select required account to autenicate.
Step 6: Use Parse Json to parse body obtained from above HTTP Request
The body would have question text, also question id (which is found in get response details output) which will be using to map things later.
Step 7. loop through each questions obtained from parse json action output using apply to each action.
Next steps will be action we did in the loop
Step 7a. Use filter array to filter the rows present in Question_Ans with the question id we are iterating through
Step 7b. use condition to check whether the question is present in excel or not like below
If question is present, go to branch:
Step 7c. Next bot will check whether the answer is null (not answered by user)
using below expression in left side : trim(body('Get_response_details')?[items('Apply_to_each')?['id']])
using expression in right side: ''
If above condition is true, we will go to yes branch
Step 7d. Next use condition to check whether the answer entered by user and present in excel file is correct or not.
expression on left side of condition : body('Get_response_details')?[items('Apply_to_each')?['id']]
expression on right side of condition: outputs('List_rows_present_in_a_table')?['body/value']?[0]?['Answer']
If the above condition is true, bot will go yes branch and increment total_marks by 1 , if condition is false, it will decrease total_marks by 0.25. like below
Outside the apply to each loop, you can check the value of total_marks variable which denotes total mark for quiz
Hope this helps 🙂
Mark it as solution if it resolves your query 🙂
First of all, very thankful for your well-explained solution, I was developing something similar, but not equal. I created my excel file with two worksheets, one contains the solution for each question (the only correct answer), while the other contains some metadata columns such as id of the response, name, email, and all answers of the respondent plus another column where I can calculate the overall score. After that, I can use the "add a row on excel file" action to save the answers of the respondent plus other metadata and then I use the "get an excel row" so that I get the overall score finally I can, for example, send an e-mail to the respondent.
In any case, once I ended my solution, I let you know and after verifying that yours is working as well I will put a thumb up.
Thanks again.
@Nived_Nambiar , I let you know that I implemented another solution without the need to make use of a for loop. Therefore I haven't tried your solution, but considering your time and effort to suggest me I will mark it as a solution as well.
I would say you can explain your solution which u have tried without loop and then mark it as answer
Would like to know how u have done it without loop ☺️

We are excited to announce the Summer of Solutions Challenge! This challenge is kicking off on Monday, June 17th and will run for (4) weeks. The challenge is open to all Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, Copilot Studio & Power Pages) community members. We invite you to participate in a quest to provide solutions to as many questions as you can. Answers can be provided in all the communities. Entry Period: This Challenge will consist of four weekly Entry Periods as follows (each an “Entry Period”) - 12:00 a.m. PT on June 17, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on June 23, 2024 - 12:00 a.m. PT on June 24, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on June 30, 2024 - 12:00 a.m. PT on July 1, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on July 7, 2024 - 12:00 a.m. PT on July 8, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on July 14, 2024 Entries will be eligible for the Entry Period in which they are received and will not carryover to subsequent weekly entry periods. You must enter into each weekly Entry Period separately. How to Enter: We invite you to participate in a quest to provide "Accepted Solutions" to as many questions as you can. Answers can be provided in all the communities. Users must provide a solution which can be an “Accepted Solution” in the Forums in all of the communities and there are no limits to the number of “Accepted Solutions” that a member can provide for entries in this challenge, but each entry must be substantially unique and different. Winner Selection and Prizes: At the end of each week, we will list the top ten (10) Community users which will consist of: 5 Community Members & 5 Super Users and they will advance to the final drawing. We will post each week in the News & Announcements the top 10 Solution providers. At the end of the challenge, we will add all of the top 10 weekly names and enter them into a random drawing. Then we will randomly select ten (10) winners (5 Community Members & 5 Super Users) from among all eligible entrants received across all weekly Entry Periods to receive the prize listed below. If a winner declines, we will draw again at random for the next winner. A user will only be able to win once overall. If they are drawn multiple times, another user will be drawn at random. Individuals will be contacted before the announcement with the opportunity to claim or deny the prize. Once all of the winners have been notified, we will post in the News & Announcements of each community with the list of winners.
