Here's my situation.
1. Flow that takes Microsoft Form responses and created an item in a Microsoft List. Works great!
2. Another flow that takes that newly created record from that Microsoft List and kicks off a set of Approvals. Then does an update and puts in the Approvals outcomes to a column. That field is only ever blank, Approve, or Reject. Works great!
3. Third flow that I'm working on now. Not working so great! 😞
I want it to trigger only when that Associate Dean Approval column has an value. Which basically means my other two flows have finished, the dean has chosen approve or reject and the previous flows populates that outcome back into the list record.
This flow would look to see ONLY if and when that column has been modified and now contains a value and can kick off with either value (Approve or Reject) because I will design different emails based on those later on.
What I've tried is turning on Split On in the When an Item is Created or Modified action and then setting two triggers on both Approve and Reject.
However, my flow isn't kicking off at all. It's not failing, it's just never even starting.

You can include a trigger condition to capture only the records that have that column filled. To achieve it, first access your trigger settings:
Then navigate until the trigger conditions (highlighted in green) and enter your rule in the input (highlighted in yellow):
The condition will look like this: @not(empty(triggerOutputs()?['body']['choices'])), where the text in red must be replaced for the logical name of the column that you want to track.

I'm glad that it worked! About your issue in returning all records, we can solve it by just changing one of your actions. Now your are using the 'Get items' (in plural), which returns all records from a SharePoint List. The result that you want can be achieve by using the 'Get item' action (in singular), which will return only the record that was modified:
Also, depending on the properties that you need, you can access the dynamic content directly from your trigger, without the need to call the 'Get item' action.

Your solution was perfect! The flow is at least triggering now. All steps run and it completes successfully, however, it is running my steps on all previous list items and I only want it to run on the record where that field was modified and triggered the flow. Can you help me with what I'm doing wrong?
So, here's my list. I now have this flow kicking off only when the column Associate Dean Approval is modified.
Then what I is to grab the items from only the line item that changed and triggered my flow. Bring those items in and then Send and email to the student email listed for that record.

However, what it's doing is bringing back all previous records and then sending emails to everyone for all records. How do I get it to only focus in on the line item that triggered the flow. (The flow is triggered when the Associate Dean Approval column goes from blank to anything else).

OMG! I'm dumb. 🙂 I was thinking get items (plural) to get all the items in that record (row). Like all the columns.
And you are right, I don't need that step anyway. I was able to just go directly from the When an Item is Created or Modified to the Send an email. I'm not sure why I was making it so complicated.
