A Container will prevent OnSelect of a Gallery from firing

Hi,

If you place a Container inside a Gallery, clicking anywhere on the Container will select the clicked Item, but will not trigger the Gallery's OnSelect. If the Container is on top and covers the whole template size, you'll never be able to execute OnSelect of the Gallery by clicking.

Did you set the OnSelect = Select(yourGallery) as Randy Hayes mentioned?

I put a transparent rectangle over the container to initiate the OnSelect.

The next problem was if I want to manipulate the gallery row itself within the container, as the container doesn't know what is selected.

Here is how I made that work.

I had the problem when trying to change the FontWeight on a selected row which was all in a horizontal container.

In the gallery OnSelect include the following:

UpdateContext({vSelectedItemID: ThisItem.ID});

In then I put a hidden ID field in the container.  Using the hidden ID and the context variable, you can use this comparison to see if the record is selected:

     Value(lblHiddenContainerId.Text) = vSelectedItemID ,

          <what you want to do if true>

           ,

          <what you want to do if false>

If(

    Value(lblHiddenContainerId.Text)=vSelectedItemID ,

          FontWeight.Semibold)

          FontWeight.Normal

If you want to manipulate something else related to the container itself, then you need a workaround.

Another approach is to set the transparent rectangle's OnVisible property to !ThisItem.IsSelected. That way, when the transparent rectangle is clicked:

1. The item is selected.
2. The transparent rectangle no longer covers the underlying controls for the selected item, exposed them for interaction as needed.

The only downside is you can't interact with a control directly inside an unselected item. You would need to click on the item once to select it (and "remove" the rectangle), then a second time to actually interact with the underlying control(s).
