Add new entries from existing data in SP list?

Hi folks,

I have a SP list with a column that contains some unique IDs. What I want to do, is to be able to have an input box where I can type in something, it'll look up that column and if it matches / is a substring, use that row and create a new record with that information.

Existing column: 

ID (Read only)

598733

323423

231142

214215

I'll type in 423 in a search box, it'll find the rows with that string/substring, in this case 323423, and I can then create a new row with that already existing information.

I don't want to edit the information in the (ID Read Only) column, just use it for a new column.

New table:

Employee ID	Name
323423	John

Is this possible?

Hi @AC92,

Do you want to add a new column or add new entry for a field from your data source in Power Apps?

Could you please tell me that if this Name column has been created in your data source or not?

If this Name column is created in your data source, I think you could add a new entery fo this Name column in canvas app.

Please follow the steps:

1). Add a new Input control to enter the info for Name column

2). Add a save button and set the OnSelect as:

If(!IsBlank(LookUp(List,textInput_ID.Text in ID)),
Patch(List,LookUp(List,textInput_ID.Text in ID),{Name:Name_Input.Text})
)

Hi there!

I want to add a new column, rather than a new entry in the "ID Read Only" column. The "Name" column has been created in the SP list but it's currently empty.

Hi @AC92,

No, the answer is no if you want to add a new column in Power Apps.

Power Apps only supports update data to the fields that exists in the Data source.

Would it be better if I put that read only column into a separate SP list to keep things cleaner? Or would it still not work? 

That way the "ID (Read Only)" is not in the new table/sharepoint list.

Hi @AC92,

No, the point to this issue is that if we could create a new column for your data source in Power Apps, not where the ID comes from.

Power Apps only supports data dealing not including data structure changing.

Hi @v-qiaqi-msft, apologies, I'm not following!

My work has changed slightly.

I have a SharePoint list named "ID_READONLY", with 1 column - "ID_READ".

I have a second SharePoint list called "LIVE_ID_LIST". In that list, there are 2 columns - "ID" and "Name".

If I wanted to do a search in PowerApps, and if the search is a match/partial match to an "ID_READ" row in the "ID_READONLY" list, it will copy that information from that row, to an entry in the "ID" column in the "LIVE_ID_LIST" SharePoint list, and I can then add a "Name" entry myself.

then after searching for the string "123123", it finds it from the ID_READONLY list, and copies it into the LIVE_ID_LIST, where I can add other attributes. I've done it for both records in the ID_READONLY list.

LIVE_ID_LIST SP List

ID	Name

123123	Mark

Essentially, I want to use an ID from the read only list, copy it into my second list and want to also add a name to it.

Is this not possible?

Hi @AC92,

If you want to search the ID from "ID_READ" and copy the completed ID to LIVE_ID_LIST, please check my first reply.

Since you have created the Name column in LIVE_ID_LIST, you could do the patch thing by checking my first reply above.
