Additional Lookup field value not changing when Lookup value set on Edit Form

Hello,

I have a Edit Form on my app that is connected to a Microsoft List. The List has a column which is a Lookup type to another List and include additional fields from the list. The Edit Form includes both the lookup value and the additional fields on it (adding by adding the fields from the list).

When in preview mode, changing the value of the Lookup column does not update the value of the additional field values on the form. Is there something I need to add to get this to happen?

Thanks. I ended changing the ComboBox to a label and using a local variable to do what I wanted. Changes I made to get it to work were

SomthingElseLabel

  • Text: somethingElseValue

ComboBox:

  • OnChange: UpdateContext({ somethingElseValue: LookUp(LookupList, ID = ComboBox.Selected.ID).SomethingElse})

Hi @theelectricwiz ,

Do you want to set the default values for other columns in the form based on the lookup column? You can use the switch or if function on the default properties of the control, or you can try the lookup function to return a different value.

Best regards,

Rimmon

Hi @theelectricwiz ,

Any additional fields referenced by SharePoint Lookup columns are not supported with SharePoint Delegation and therefore your Form will not interact with them in the manner you wish. You probably need to have a revision of your data structure and/or process here. SharePoint Lookup columns in a main are generally unnecessary and do nothing but cause unwanted complexity and restrictions. I do not use them and probably never will.

If that will work, that sounds good. Would the lookup be on the list the that is used by the lookup field.

For example

LookupList

  • ID
  • Title
  • SomethingElse

OtherList

  • ID
  • Title
  • LookupColumn
  • LookupColumn:SomethingElse

Something like

LookupColumn:SomethingElse Default

Lookup(LookupList, ID = ThisItem.LookupColumn.ID)

Hi @theelectricwiz ,

This does work if you want to find a record in a lookup list based on the value of the lookup column. The lookup column for SharePoint contains the ID of the lookup list and the Value column that stores the column being looked up.

In addition, one thing you need to note is that you need to change the LookupColumn.ID in the formula to LookupColumn.Id, because Id is the column name used to store the ID in the lookup column.

Sorry yes, that was a typo, it should have been

Lookup(LookupList, ID = ThisItem.LookupColumn.Id)

Are you able to give what is should be as I am getting an error when I set it to (Expected Record value)

Lookup(LookupList, ID = ThisItem.LookupColumn.ID).SomethingElse

and just

Lookup(LookupList, ID = ThisItem.LookupColumn.ID)

doesn't seem to do anything when I change the value of the LookupColumn. The LookupColumn:SomethingElse field in the Edit form got added as a view only Combo Box when I added it.

Hi @theelectricwiz ,

SomethingElse should be columns in lookup list. Lookup column is specific choice column in SP list, so power apps use combo box to display it in data card. If you want to set default of the lookup combo box, you should use lookup for data source of combo box, the data source is Items of combo box.

The Items is usually:

Choices([@List].lookupColumn)

Hi @v-mengmli-msft,

Thanks so far.

I was wanting to get the Edit Form (in New mode) for the OtherList list to display the associated value of LookupColumn:SomethingElse when the value for LookupColumn is selected (currently no value is display for LookupColumn:SomethingElse when a value for LookupColumn is selected

theelectricwiz_0-1705982371317.png

I guess I can change the input for LookupColumn:SomethingElse to be a calculated value based on the selected value for LookupColumn? I was hoping PowerApps would do this for me.

Hi @theelectricwiz ,

I think you should use ComboBox.Selected.Id instead of ThisItem.lookupColumn.Id because ThisItem.lookupColumn.Id won't change unless you submit the form after changing the options in Combo box.

If you want to show SomethingElse in lookup list according to selection in combo box, please try this:

Assuming that you are using Label.

Text of Label:

Lookup(LookupList, ID = ComboBox.Selected.Id).SomethingElse

If there is no value in label, please check the type of SomethingElse and check if it is blank.
