An entry is required or has an invalid value

Hello all,

I started to build new Power App. SharePoint list form works perfectly but I using also LOOKUP data from existing SharePoint list (about 400 lines). Unfortunately SharePoint list form works only as "dropdown" without option to search.

So I created customized form via Power Apps with combo box which is able to search. Unfortunately If I publish the form created in Power Apps I'm not able to create new item. Also I'm not able to edit existing fields as I getting still same error "An entry is required or has an invalid value".

I tried several hints from this forum.

1) Tittle column is not required.

2) I tried all fields setup as not required in SharePoint list. Then I setup all fields as no required in Power Apps - doesn't help.

3) I tried in app advanced settings turn off delayed loading

I don't have any idea how to fix it.....if I switch back to SharePoint list everything works pretty well.

Any ideas?

Yes - simply make sure you have the Title field in your field list of the EditForm.  Click on the "Edit fields" in the Right Pane of the Edit Form properties.

Make sure you have the Title field listed in your list.  If it is not there, then add it with the Add field icon at the top of that list.

Once you have it in your form.  Click on the datacard for it in the form.  Then click on the Advanced tab in the property pane on the right and Unlock the DataCard.

Then look down that list of properties in the Advanced properties.  You will see the Update property.  Set it to just a string value - doesn't make a difference what you set it to as you don't really care about it.

Then switch back to the regular properties in that property pane and turn the Visible property off.

@mhala

Can you describe your process of how you created the form from your SharePoint list?

In general, you can change the field control type of the edit form to accommodate what you are looking for pretty easily.

If you have changed any of the controls or Update properties of the datacards in the edit form, then there is a good chance that it is trying to push back an invalid record.  The "required" part of the message may not apply directly to a column as much as it might refer to a part of a column (as in your lookup).

Provide more details on the definition in SharePoint of the column you are concerned over.  Also a screenshot of your form and any relevant formulas you have adjusted.

I can share it - it's not problem.

Good point with that LOOKUP formula - in the source fields are required. So based your tip I tried to turn off all required fields.

Now - update. I'm able to edit existing forms/data via Power App Form.

New item can't be created still - error message dissapeared. If I click on "save" I see 3 dots on top as run, but it doesn't save the item for some reason.

Update1:

now it showing after click on save "skip to main content"

mhala_0-1603399657854.png

Update2:

New error messing - again clicked on save and now I got an error "tittle field is required" - I suppose I now how to fix it, I will post new update in few minutes.

Update3:

I added "tittle field" to Power Apps and turned off this field as required, then I hidden this item.

In SharePoint is tittle setup as not required also.

Again same error 😕

mhala_0-1603400075881.png

Update4:

Now I can't again edit existing item - same error as above - strange.

Update5:

In advanced app settings delayed load must be turned off. Editing of existing items works for now.

Update6:

I updated app (add tittle column as not required an hidden) - again for some reason editing items doesn't work. Still gotting an error "an entry is required or has an invalid value"

Update7:

If I remove "title" as field from Power App (tittle was hidden and not required) then with delayed load I'm able again EDIT existing item.

Still I'm not able save new items. If I want created new item and I click on "save" nothing happened.

Any ideas?

@mhala

If you happened to have changed columns in your list from required to not required, I would suggest removing the datasource from your App completely and then add it back in.  PowerApps gets a little confused on those type of changes, remove and add back sometimes will clear that issue.

I also (as extra insurance) will usually select the EditForm and cut it (ctrl-X) and then undo (ctrl-Z).  This causes PowerApps to bring the form back and it then refreshes itself against the datasource that you just refresh (hard refresh).

" I would suggest removing the datasource from your App completely and then add it back in."

How I can do it please? I'm unsure how to remove datasource back and add it back in without developing the app again?

@mhala

In your datasources (left pane of your designer), find your datasource and click on the ellipses and choose remove.  Then add the datasource again (you'll see your connectors - find the SharePoint connector) Then find your SharePoint site, then click on the List you are connecting to.

Now when I tried add new time, then after clicking on save button I seen some dots running.....then I see message "skip to main content"

New item wasn't saved - nothing more happened 😕 @RandyHayes  any ideas?

@mhala

What do you have on the OnSave property of the SharePointIntegration?

I assume you are just using the Save button on the built-in list - or are you adding your own submit button?

@RandyHayes  Thank you a lot with this support.

It's default setup - I'm not "pro" user. I just wanted extend options of Sharepoint Form by Power Apps 🙂 It's not so easy as I supposed...

mhala_0-1603463987971.png

To replicate this error better I added "button" and copied the Form "SubmitForm(SharePointForm1)" to it.

I tried to monitor what happens - only one "warning"

mhala_0-1603464778949.png

@mhala

Actually, what you are doing is *usually* pretty easy (don't get discouraged).

So, let's go through the steps again...

1) You choose Customize Forms from SharePoint.

2) You change something around a little (what?)

3) You return to SharePoint and publish

4) You choose New

5) You see your customized form.

6) You enter information

7) You click save

😎 You return to your list

Where in the above list do things go wrong?
