App Crashing on Launch - only on mobile

I have a "home page" App that direct users to 4 different apps using buttons and the Launch function. I've had this same design for a few years. About two weeks about, it crashes abruptly on iOS whenever clicking on a button with the launch function. It does not crash when using a browser.

  • I've tried to use monitor to troubleshoot the issue.
  • I created a very simple app with just a button and no datasets an it still crashed on the Launch function
  • One work around is to be to "pre-load" the sub apps by clicking on them and the trying the home page
  • I tried deleting powerapps, reinstall, and clearing the cache. Still nothing.

Any direction would be greatly appreciated.

@JakeFarrell

After working with MS Support for the last few weeks, I resolved out issue by rewriting my "home page" app using parameters that were global variables.

When it was crashing, I was passing a Label.Text which was determined by a Lookup function as a Parameter in Launch().

I just tried deleting PowerApps and trying the app through Safari on iOS, and it works normal.

@garends

I assume you mean users are launching via the PowerApps Player app on mobile?

Have you tried editing all the apps, making a small change in each then save & republish them all? This can sometimes fix things.

Also, the code to launch via the browser or a mobile device is different. I've used an If() statement in the past to check then launch the correct code, are you doing this? There is the new Host object that you can use to check device OS now that maybe helpful here.

If you could share some launch code, minus any sensitive tenant info, that may help.

Thank you!

Thanks @EddieE

That's correct the PowerApps player app from the app store:

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/power-apps/id1047318566

I've tried editing the apps, making small changes and republishing them. That didn't fix it.

APPID below was Found from going to "details" on make.powerapps.com

Originally the launch code was:

Launch("https://web.powerapps.com/apps/APPID", "FirstName",Label1.Text, "LastName",Label2.Text);

I also just tried:

Launch("ms-apps:///providers/Microsoft.PowerApps/apps/APPID");

Neither of the above launch codes work when running the powerapps player on iOS.

Thank you!

@garends

Try using this

// Note- remove the square brackets ie '[' and ']'
"https://apps.powerapps.com/play/[ your APPID ]?tenantId=[ your tenant ID ]"

We have this Launch code start text in one of our apps and it works fine on iOS

Thanks for the tip, I tried that code, and it's still crashing in PowerApps mobile player for iOS.

@garends

Ah ok. I think this is the extent of my knowledge so I'm going to suggest you create a MS Support ticket and see if they can help. Getting some session IDs from your iOS users, if possible, will speed that process up considerably.

Thanks! I have submitted a support ticket with MS and am working with them to resolve the problem.

I am experiencing this issue on iOS but only for iPhone. iPad still works.

@garends were you seeing this on both device types?

@JakeFarrell

I just tried it on my iPad 6th generation and it worked surprisingly.

I opened a ticket with Microsoft last Thursday, and had one Teams meeting with them so far. I will keep you posted @JakeFarrell what I hear back from MS support. Good to know someone else is experiencing a similar issue.
