Attaching Files from PowerApps into PowerAutomate

Hello Creators, I’ve got a question this time to Powerapps and uploading files in PowerApps.

I have a PowerApp where I have many Text Input Fields and couple Date&a time Fields. Now all of those fields will be gathered through PowerApps V2 function in Power Automate. Now my problem is, I cannot get the Attachments into Power Automate. I’ve tried using normal Forms but that’s not it. I’ve tried Patching, using JSON conversions etc and what I have till now is a code that “supposedly” has to work but doesn’t.(picture down below). My Question is how can I finally solve this Problem and attach the Attachments into my Power Automate, where I would be able to get this file and also apply it into my Approve/Reject Condition.

If ANYONE, can help me with this Problem, I would appreciate it very much (PS: the solution should work with every file data type)

thanks a lot

Hey @Riidi ,

I hope your are well.

I know that is not your case, but in the past I tried passing a pdfcontent from automate to powerapps and it did not work. I think this might be an incompatibility issue.

If you are generating the pdf on your powerapps though, you can try to create a folder on onedrive or a sharepoint list to store the actual files and user power automate to get it from the list.

Or you can generate the files inside your power automate flow using the powerapps controls as your parameters.

Try this and let us know if youy succeeded!

Hi Clark, thank you for your quick response. Quick question how would you upload the files to SharePoint ( like multiple )? What type of Code would you use with what type of button?( could this code be implemented into one single button that I use already)

@Riidi ,

It is possible to put everything in one button, yes.

What I would do is create a collection with two column "FileName" and "FileConent". This way you can make a ForAll() function with that collection and Patch them into a list as attachment. I don't know if it is possible to have multiple attachment into one list item.

In a worst case scenario, you could create one list item for each file, but you could create an ID column and use the same ID for all those files. This way they would be linked.

I cannot create an example code right now, but if no one else posts anything here and you don't have succes till later today, I'll come back here and post something.

Hi @Riidi
When you say 'Attachments' are you allowing the user to browse for 1 or more files and attach to an attachment control in a form or something else?

Yes, I took the Attachment ( Datavaluecard I think it’s called) from Forms, removed all of the items except Displaymode.Edit and use that as my attachment box/control.🙂

@Riidi ,

This might work for you.

What I did was submit the form normally with all attachments to the item you are submitting with the form.

iClarkSi_3-1709689823182.png

On the Run Automation button, I used this code:

SubmitForm(Form3);
ResetForm(Form3);
LookForAttachments.Run(
    GUIDField.Text
);

Now on the flow, I used the generated GUID to filter the list and then get all attachments of the item based on its ID.

This was the result of the automation. Both files are here:

[
  {
    "Id": "..................testexcel.xlsx",
    "AbsoluteUri": "................../Attachments/28/testexcel.xlsx",
    "DisplayName": "testexcel.xlsx",
    "@odata.type": "#Microsoft.Azure.Connectors.SharePoint.SPListItemAttachment"
  },
  {
    "Id": "..................testword.rtf",
    "AbsoluteUri": "................../Attachments/28/testword.rtf",
    "DisplayName": "testword.rtf",
    "@odata.type": "#Microsoft.Azure.Connectors.SharePoint.SPListItemAttachment"
  }
]

When I click the button, the item will be created on the list and then will run the automation. Making it this way, you create the item with all attachments and now you can access those files in your flow.

I hope this helps you!

Sorry if I’m not understanding all of it, but where in the Flow did you put that code and where did you get the GUID?

thanks

Also I just have the Datacard but it doesn’t have any value. Like it’s not part of Edit Form ( means no Submitform(Form) can be made). Is it still possible to make it happen?

@Riidi ,

About not being able to use submit to upload the files to a list item, you can refer to this forum post here: Solved: Patch attachments - Possible? How? - Power Platform Community (microsoft.com)

It might make things even easier than what I suggested.

I hope this helps you!
