Bar Chart Legend is Weird

Can anyone tell me how to get the legend to have the series labels (what you see in the screen shot directly on the bottom of the bar)? (I plan to remove those slanted words after I get this right, as I don't want people to have to tilt their heads.) I tried changing the Quanity to Item in the bar properties - but that swishes everything into 1 bar.

(Note: Value is the only possibility under serieslabels in the legend properties).

This has given me a headache, so any help at all will be appreciated! P.S. Is there a way to swap between bar and column charts (horizontal/vertical axis)

Thank you,

Audrie

Here you go, is this what you were looking for?  Remember: you have to select an element of the chart before the legend will display.

Can anyone help with this?

Hi Audrie

1) The only way I could make it work was to do this:

Legend1.Items = ColumnChart1.SelectedItems

The result is below, but you have to click on the chart (i.e. select something) for it to show.

2) To remove the slanted words, you set:

ColumnChart1.GridStyle = GridStyle.None

3) I have found no way to create a horizontal chart

It won't work for me. Would you try to use the data in my screen shot and see if it works for you please? No matter what I do the legend is incorrect.

Thanks so much for your expertise in this area.

Would you mind sharing your app with me using OneDrive for Business? I just don't see how you did that using the table data provided. (sorry to be so needy).

thank you so very much!

ACTUALLY, STOP THIS IS EVEN BETTER

You just repeat the table, so you don't even have to select anything, simple!

Here are the steps, it takes 3 minutes.

1) Create a new blank app

2) Create a new Column chart

3) Set the Items property of ColumnChart1 to this

Table(
{Item: "Section 8", Quantity: 1433},
{Item: "Pets", Quantity: 1200},
{Item: "Renewal", Quantity: 600},
{Item: "Moved", Quantity: 100}
)

4) Set the Items property of Legend1 to the same

That is all

no reason to shout. if you look at my first screen shots - that is exactly what I did.

thanks for your help, i will figure out why mine didn't work. I accepted your solution anyway.

My co-worker just said that you mean changing the legend to the same as the chart. That's quite unexpected because in your first chart - the one you made before I asked you to use my data - you had the following set:

I'm not crazyI'm not crazy

Then you changed the approach and said I need to put the same table list in the chart and in the legend. I can do that, but I think instead of shouting at me, you should have just explained why the approach would need to be different from the OOB way this is done.

Thank you.
