Building a Items Changed Collection

I want to build a collection and write that collection to a file of the values from a EditForm Before it changes and After it changes.

When a user clicks on a gallery record, the editform populates with gallery.selected.  The user makes a change on the form and hits submit. After they hit the submit button, I want to write the original value and the new value to a collection or datafile.

Im going to assume you are using a gallery or have an object that you can have a user click to know that is the object they want to edit.

First thing I would do is when the item is clicked in a gallery for example write that item to the collection you want to use right away. Once the changes are made in the edit form, the item will be patched as normal and will overwrite the old version. Now you will have the old version and the new version as well.

On select of item -> save current (soon to be old) item to your collection then open an edit form with that item in it.

Submit form -> when you submit the form this can write to wherever you want the new version stored.

In my collection, I'd like to have each Row have Value:Beforechangedvar, Value:Afterchangedvar.

Since I'm creating the collection initially before the submit, is there a way to update the exact row of the collection to update the Afterchangedvar rather than have a 2nd row created?

Honestly this sounds like a custom form. I use custom forms almost 100% of the time as the prebuilt forms seem to be lacking the capability that I want/need quite often. I could be wrong on this and I'm sure there is another way to do it but with a custom form you be very specific with what gets uploaded to where and when that happens. 

Try this with your form..

1.) get the item you want before and save it to a local collection using ClearCollect(singleItemBefore, selectedItem).

        - this will save your item before values to a local collection of size 1. Access this with First(singleItemBefore).columnName. 

2.) Lock the input for the 2 before fields so the user cannot change them and then sent the to the fields of the item in your local collection that you made (singleItemBefore in my example)

3.) When the user edits the data, it will change that but will aslo still have the old data in the old data column when it patches.

If those steps dont work you might have to try to build your own form using textboxs and inputs.

So here's what I did that worked:

OnSelect of the changed record in the gallery:

ClearCollect(changedjobs,{JobBefore:ThisItem.Client})

This creates the collection and stores the field I want to keep a log of.

In the OnSelect of the button to submit the form:

Submit(Form3);

Patch('Master Database Changes', Defaults('Master Database Changes'),{Title:"Nothing",Changes:"Before:"&First(changedjobs).JobBefore & " After:" & Form3.LastSubmit.Client},
{'Who Changed':User().Email}
)

This creates a record in a Changes Database Sharepoint List showing the original value from the collection, and the changed record and the current user that made the change.
