Bulk Edit in model driven app using business rule & JavaScript

Hello,

I’ve created a model driven app where I’m using business rules to validate user input, show/hide mandatory columns. There are 390 business rules implemented in 92 forms. Also, there is a custom JavaScript, running on top of each form, to validate logged in user security role and it is used also for some custom validation where it wasn’t possible using business rules.
All the Business rules and JavaScript validation are working fine on single item form but business rules and JavaScript validations are not supported in bulk edit forms. User can submit the data using bulk edit form bypassing all the data validation.

Because of this we are facing multiple issues due to missing data, users can not identify mandatory data on bulk edit form.

Is there a way to use bulk edit without losing business rule & JavaScript functionalities?

Hi @imereuta ,

In such scenarios, you can use Plugins for backend validation. 

Since JS and Business rules work only when the Record form is on screen, if data is changed from elsewhere, your JS and BR fails but Plugins won't fail.

What if we change the scope of Business Rule to Entity... then it'll work server-side. Am i right?

Yes @ShaheerAhmad, BR in such cases are good for performing calculated items or setting some items.

Never validated anything with it, also I doubt for critical validation in certain conditions. 

I always used plugins as its far more reliable then other items. 

Still if @imereuta , you want to try with BR then try validating in all cases, like from Flow or import. Hoping validation works. Else you have plugins always.

For our solution we also need to ensure that the business rules are applied when bulk editing forms.

You can use Plugins which ensures validation on every record that is getting updated.

Thank you for the quick response. Is this what you mean by plugins: Plugins ?

When we apply those plugins, is it then forbidden for items to be updated when they do not meet certain rules?

Yes, you need to use standard way which will do the job as well. Link

As, for each record, plugin would fire (if you have multiple items to process for each record then multiple is considered but normal way would work in your case)

You simply need validation of the data that is about to be updated.

If there's any incorrect data then throw error else ignore & let the code run completely. 

This will make true data be updated on records and stop incorrect data to be updated.
