Bulk patch to Yes/No column in dataverse table from Power App

For anyone who saw my post yesterday, I have now moved on to the next issue I am stuck on 🙂

So in my Power App, I am displaying the content of a dataverse table. This table happens to have a Yes/No column to indicate whether the table row has been read by the user (each table row is only applicable to one user).

The interface allows the user to click a button and view the full details of a row in a dialog. Upon closing the dialog the row is marked as read. This works perfectly.

The code I am using to do this is:

Patch(Notifications, LookUp(Notifications, Gallery1.Selected.'Notification Reference' = 'Notification Reference'), {'Is Read': 'Is Read (Notifications)'.Yes});

Where Notifications is my table name. I am having to do a lookup as the Gallery adds an index column for the display which cannot be patched back to the table. 

I am also trying to provide the user with the ability to mark all their entries as read. This is where I am coming unstuck. The following code gives me the following errors in the App Checker:

Error 1: The function 'ForAll' has some invalid arguments

Error 2: The specified column 'Is Read' does not exist

Error 3: The specified column '_ownerid_value' does not exist

Error 4: Invalid argument type (Guid). Expecting a Table value instead

Error 5: The function 'Patch has some invalid arguments

Hi,

Have you tried using true or false like this:

Patch(Notifications, Gallery1.Selected, {'Is Read': true});

 and as mentioned on Error 2, make sure the column 'Is Read' exists

Regarding the owner, it is a bit complicated to use this column but you have to add the table Users:

Now you can convert your column Owner to a Person column and get the person ful name, like this:

AsType(ThisItem.Owner,Users).'Full Name'

If you want to filter using the column Owner try this:

Filter(Notifications, AsType(Owner,Users).'Primary Email' = User().Email)

And you can bulk update like this:

ClearCollect (myUnread, 
      Filter(
            Notifications,
            ThisRecord.'Is Read' = false,
            varCurrentUser.Email in 'Recipient Emails'
        ));

UpdateIf(myUnread, true,
      {'Is Read':true}
);


Patch(
    Notifications,
    myUnread
);

You can further simplify your bulk update as follows:

With(
    {
        UnreadNotificationRecords: Filter(Notifications, 'Is Read' = false && varCurrentUser.Email in 'Recipient Emails')
    },
    UpdateIf(
        UnreadNotificationRecords,
        true,
        {
            'Is Read': true
        }
    );
    Notify("Updated successfully", NotificationType.Success, 1000);
);

Note:

1. Dataverse Yes/No columns are indicated as true/false values. Only optionset will have distinct values as you defined.

2. If this 'Recipient Email' is a string field then the code will work, but if that's a lookup then you have to add the column which holds email:

Example: 'Recipient Email'.ColumnName

In response to Victor's post. Yes I had tried true or false values for Is Read, but it only seemed to work with the full option set notation. The 'Is Read' column definitely was there so not sure why it was claiming it couldn't find it.

Regarding the Owner, I was not trying to use the User's table. I think it was referring to the Owner column in the table, which I am not actually using. It shouldn't have changed, so again not sure why it was complaining about it.

Thanks to both of you for the UpdateIf suggestion. I managed to get that working by replacing the code in my post with:

    Notifications,
    ('Is Read' = 'Is Read (Notifications)'.No) And (varCurrentUser.Email in 'Recipient Emails'),
    {'Is Read': 'Is Read (Notifications)'.Yes}
);

As you can see, much simplified, and it works. Thanks again. I will mark both of your answers as solutions as you both suggested the UpdateIf.
