Canvas app does not show up under the "All Apps" tab on cell phone when the user is logged in as guest/external email

I have a Canvas app that allows the user to work offline. It works fine except for one bug.

If the user is a domain member they see the app under "All Apps" tab when they login to PowerApps on their cell phone.

But if the user is a guest user, after they login on the cell phone PowerApps, they do not see app name listed under the "All Apps" tab.  They have to click on the Web link of the application that I send to them by email (which when clicked on from the cell phone opens the PowerApps and launches the application).

My organization assigns the PowerApps licenses for every guest user who is enabled as guest users in AD according to these instructions Quickstart: Add a guest user and send an invitation - Azure AD - Microsoft Entra | Microsoft Docs

Does any one knows why the guest users are unable to see a list of the application names? Is this a bug? Or is there a setup to enable the guest users to see a list of their Canvas applications?

Hi @PowerAppUserCan,

I want to clarify one thing again, this is not a bug, this is by design.

I regret that this is not you want, however the guest user could only access to the shared app by clicking the web link from the invitation email or open it in mobile browser.

Just imagine, the internal users login the mobile device using the account from the same environment, however, the guest users login the mobile device using the account from their own environment which is totally different from yours. This is obvious that the shared app disappear in the app list.

Here is a trick from @Raynok1, this is not elegant, but could work on your side:

1.) Share the app as per normal process for an external user.

2.) Make sure powerapps is installed on the mobile device.

3.) Advise the external user to open the email from the mobile and select "open app". It should prompted them to either open via the browser or powerapp, Choose "Powerapps" of course.

4.) Sign in as per normal and there you go, it'll open in the powerapps mobile app.

5.) Swipe to the right, refresh your app list and you'll see the guest app in the list but all your other apps will disappear if you had other apps. Dont worry that's the "Odd" bit. Lets continue..

6.) On the gust app select the 3 dots or ellipses (not sure what its called) and pin the app to the home screen.

To get back all the other apps that you might of had, close powerapps mobile and reopen it (not using the guest app icon on the home screen).

Note that this is tested on a Android device, please check if this could work on your side.

Best Regards,
Qi

Hi @PowerAppUserCan

This is not a bug.

This is by design.

The doc you posted has clarified that "In this quickstart, you created a guest user in the Azure portal and sent an invitation to share apps. Then you viewed the redemption process from the guest user's perspective and verified that the guest user was able to access their My Apps page.".

This could only help your guest users access to their My Apps page where exists the shared apps. The reason why you should assign guest users with PowerApps licenses is that you could share the apps with the guest users, which does not mean that guest users could access to all the apps in your organization.

Best Regards,
Qi

Hi Qi,

I do not want the guest users to see all apps. I want them only to see the apps that I shared with them.  It does not show the apps that I shared with them on the cell phone.  On the web after they login, they do not see them either because PowerApps are not enterprise applications that appear on the Azure AD->Enterprise Applications blade.

Hi @PowerAppUserCan

Here is some related Q&A for your reference:

1). In Power Apps Mobile, how does a guest see apps for their home tenant?
Any user who has used their mobile device to access a canvas app that was published in an Azure AD tenant that isn't their home tenant, must sign out of Power Apps and sign back in to Power Apps Mobile.

2). In Power Apps Mobile, how does a guest see apps in the guest tenant?
The guest user opens the email they received when an app in the guest tenant was shared, and selects Open the app. This applies to both Azure AD and Microsoft account users.

3). Must a guest accept the Azure AD guest invitation before an app can be shared with them?
No. If a guest opens an app that was shared with them before they accepted a guest invitation, the guest will be prompted to accept the invitation as part of the sign-in experience while opening the app.

Please check our official doc for more details:

I reviewed all of the above posted replies (thanks for the poster) but I still cannot get the guest user account to show the list of apps in my organization without clicking on the weblink that I shared with them.  The guest users of my applications do not have PowerApps in their organizations.

I think it is a bug because the application launches if the guest user clicks on the weblink that was shared with them using the email.  If they "favorite" the app, it would appear under the "favorites" list but then it would disappear from the favorites list if they logout and re-login.  The only consistent way to launch the app is to click on the weblink on their cellphone.

This only happens when logging as a guest user.  If I login as a domain user, I can see the applications list.

Thanks for the reply. I agree with you that it is not a bug rather it is a missing feature.

I tried the trick that you quoted on iPhone. It works one time only but once you logout and login the app is no longer favorited.  It disappears and I have to use the weblink to reopen it.  I will accept your last reply as the solution. I think however that Microsoft should consider adding the display of authorized applications to the guest the user.

I'm facing the same problem. If I share an app with a guest and this guest has the required licenses on his home tenant for powerapps (which is my situation), he should always see the shared app(s) on his list when oppening powerapps and logging in with his own credentials. Even if it is on a different tenant. That's why it is "shared" with a guest. For me this is a must feature or however microsoft calls it. The way it is now, sharing with a guest is too much hassle for the guest and does not fulfil the purpose in practice. The idea is great, but the execution in this way is poor. Should not be a big deal for MS to solve this.
