Check If a specific DataCard Value is Different than Other DataCard and Do Next Action

Hi Everyone,

I have scenario as below.

• SP List with Two Status Columns - 'Current Status' and 'Previous Status'
• Both are Text Columns
• Added Both the Columns in a Form.

What I want is:

When submitting the form, check if 'Current Status' is same as 'Previous Status'. If those are same then do nothing, else copy the 'Current Status' to the 'Previous Status'.

I was thinking to have a separate form only for the two fields but i thought it is not a best way to do that. Can anyone please help on how to achieve this please.

You could set the Update property of the previous status datacard to ThisItem.'Current Status'

Now i am getting the expected value in the text field and it is getting added in to the SharePoint list. 

However how to apply the condition as if: check if 'Current Status' is same as 'Previous Status'. If that is same then do nothing, else copy the 'Current Status' to the 'Previous Status'.

I tried applying the below code in the update property of the data card but it is now working as expected.

If(ThisItem.'Current Status' <> ThisItem.'Previous Status', ThisItem.'Current Status', ThisItem.'Previous Status')

I'm not sure what you're trying to achieve.

When the values are equal already, setting the previous value to current won't change anything since the values were equal.

Can you describe what functionality you're trying to implement?

Hello @shoog,

Actually i have a list which is having 15 Status values. I am trying to capture the respective date when the status changes, I have created 15 date columns for that (which we will use later to generate Power BI Report and see that how much time it took to change the status from A to B). Hence i created two more columns than the original 'Status' column to check the 'Current Status' and the 'Previous Status'.

I think, I may be using a long route/way to achieve what i want. Can you please help me that what could be the best way to capture the dates when the status changes? With that, we also need to ensure that when the status has not changed the date should not be added for the respective status. Because it may happen that the record will get updated with other data and status remain same. Hence we just want the date to be captured when the status is not same as previous.

Appreciate if you can please help.

You could change to update property of the changedate datacard to something like

If(ThisItem.'Current Status' <> DataCardValue1.Selected, Now(), ThisItem.Changedate)

DataCardValue1 should be changed to the actual data card that holds the current status field.

Changedate to the actual column name holding the date the status changed.

This will compare the previous stored status value in ThisItem with the new status value from the datacard. If they are different, update the changedate with the current date, if they are the same keep it at the previous value.

If the Data Card Values are Text Input boxes by default, Update property of the previous status data card:

If(CurrentStatusDataCardValue.Text <> PreviousStatusDataCardValue.Text, CurrentStatusDataCardValue.Text)

but if you have modified them to Dropdowns with their Items set to like ["aaa","bbb","ccc"], formula would be:

If(CurrentStatusCombobox.Selected.Value <> PreviousStatusCombobox.Selected.Value, CurrentStatusCombobox.Selected.Value)
