Choice Fields not showing as an option

I have a Sharepoint list with several fields, one of which is a Choice DataType.

When creating a new App from Scratch, I createed a Datasource pulling from that list.  The Choice field is not showiong up as an available field for me to add to the vertical list gallery.

What is the trick to making this field available for use?

Ultimately, I would like to use this field in a form as a GroupBy option.

Any guidance is appreciated.

Hi @bgough,

Looks like it is a bug. I have created the forms from SharePoint list itself. Please report this to the ideas forum,

Thanks

Hi @bgough,

I created a SharePoint list with choice data type. Set the datasource as this SharePoint list. I can see the choice field option sets when I run the PowerApp. Try to set the following:

Select the choice field from the user interface. Right hand side properties First set the Edit Lookup. Then set  Value1 as Value and Value 2 as Id.

Thank you for the reply @abm, but I do not even get to the point where I can adjust properties.  🙂

here is the list of fields in my SharePoint list

PAFields.pngAnd here is what I see after adding the list as a data source, and adding a 'Vertical' Text gallery.

As you can see, "Client Status" is not shown as an available field to display.

I have tried other Gallery options an d get similar results.

If i let PowerApps create all the forms for me automatically by choosing my list as the starting point, it creates it fine, and I am able to adjust the properties so the choice fields display correctly.  But if I try anything from scratch, I run in to this issue.

did this ever get solved?

Hi @chmills

I think choice fields are not an issue in custom apps.  I personally always create app from a blank one and don't use forms/datacards as they are more trouble than they are worth.

Please see this for the ability to patch to choice columns:

I got this solved by using the Destinct-function

Distinct(ListName.ChoiceColumn;ChoiceColumn.Value)

This adds the List Items to the items-property of a dropdown field.

It is also working in the WebStudio.

Just as an update on this, the following now appears to work on Galleries (I don't have this issue on Data tables), but ONLY if there's a single selection made, multiple select fields don't appear to work still;

  1. Insert a new Label you want to hold the value
  2. Go to the Advanced properties of the new label
  3. In the data section of the properties panel, add "ThisItem.Choicefield.Value" in the Text field, obviously replacing "Choicefield" with the name of the field in your SharePoint list.

That solved it for me. Hope it helps...

I have the same problem from time to time, and what is worse is that is completely ramdomly...

so finally the best solution I found is simply ClearCollect the Choices in a collection and then use this collection instead of the function in the Dropdown.Items

I assume you have a Sharepoint List called  MyList, and that this list has a column called MyChoiceField (type Choice)

So in any screen.OnvVisible (or App.OnStart) you add:

ClearCollect(ChoiceCol_1, Choices(MyList.MyChoiceField))

then whenever you need a Dropdown with these field you can simply put as Items:    ChoiceCol_1

and it will work.

I suppose there's a kind of delay problem that leaves the items empty... this way since you collect it into a local collection forehand you overcome the issue... (but this is purely my assumption 🙂 )
