Click toggle to start automated flow in Power Apps and Automate?

Hi there,

Planning to create a toggle.

• This toggle should be saved (whether it's checked or not checked) when I visit my app again
• This toggle should trigger a flow that I have created in Power Automate to post things in a channel in Teams when a feed is updated until the user unchecks the toggle again

So, now I don't know how this exactly will work. I stated in Power Automate that 'when a feed item is published', to update a Teams channel... but will it keep running until the toggle is unchecked or not? Or should my users constantly toggle the button to start the flow?

However, I coupled this with my toggle on CHECKED. But how will this now work? I want my users to ONLY ONCE click on the toggle to keep the Power Automate running until they uncheck the toggle again. 

So, should I choose an instant or automated flow in Power Automate? It is a bit confusing, because it seems like that the flow is not running after I close my app....

The automated flow you have chosen will ONLY trigger when a new feed item is published, regardless of what you set it to in Power Apps.

What I would do instead is have the toggle set a value on a list with the row item having the users email address in it. then its default is a lookup to that specific row's value.

Then in the flow I would have a second action that checks for a row based on the user that created the feed item, and if they have set AllowFeedMessages (or whatever you call the column) then proceed with the rest of the flow otherwise terminate the flow

Create a datasource called FeedMessageSettings, in the datasource we have two columns, UserEmail (text) and AllowFeedMessage (true/false).

When the user hits the toggle, the OnCheck will patch a row with:

{UserEmail: User().Email, AllowFeedMessages: true}

on OnUncheck, it patches the row with:

{UserEmail: User().Email, AllowFeedMessages: false}

The code should be something like this to ensure it patches the same row:

Then when you have your flow sending out message, you have it run an apply to each for all of the FeedMessageSettings, and a condition that checks if AllowFeedMessages = true, and only send the mail when that is true.

Interesting! Thank you, iAm_ManCat. Just for me to understand: this will only send an email, right? I can't tweak it to send a private chat to the people that have toggled on the notifications?

Once you are dealing with the list from flow, you can do whatever you want with the answers, as you have an apply to each running against each item.

If you want to send a private chat then use the teams connector to do that for each =true situation instead of sending an email
