Collection sorting, setting global variables in gallery and changing selected after filtering gallery

Hey all, new PowerApps user here. I'm building my first app as we speak and I'm running into 3 separate issues at the moment. 

First problem is that I want to sort my collection alphabetically. This is what I have currently:

BrowseScreen1.OnVisible:
ClearCollect(collectDbMergedTables,AddColumns(Table1 As _mergedTables,
"A",LookUp(Table2,_mergedTables.AId=ID,A),
"B",LookUp(Table3,_mergedTables.BId=ID,B),
"C",LookUp(Table3,_mergedTables.CId=ID,C)));

I've tried sorting before and after. It doesn't behave as I expect it to. I think I'm using the syntax wrong, although I'm not too sure.

Second problem is that whenever I set a global variable, it sometimes works, other times it doesn't. Let me set the stage here:

I have a gallery and a details screen.

Gallery.OnSelect: Set(varSelectedItemID, ThisItem.ID)

Details.Item: LookUp(Table1,ID=varSelectedItemID)

Sometimes the details screen properly shows the content. Other times click on an item in my gallery doesn't set any variable, thus leaving my details screen blank. How come?

Third and last problem I think somewhat more difficult. Currently I have a few dropdown filters to filter my gallery. The filters work great and do what they're supposed to filter. However, let's say I have an item selected which then gets filtered out using said dropdowns, my details screen keeps showing the "old" item. I want it to change to whatever is first on my gallery list IF the item gets filtered out. Is this possible?

Adding to this, I've tried to solve my first problem with stuff like:

SortByColumns(collectDbMergedTables, "XYZ");

But it completely breaks my collection somehow.

I figured out the second problem occurs whenever my collection doesn't contain the IDs. I'm still unsure of what's causing it, but it seems to be happening way less often now.

As for my third problem. That one I "solved" by deselecting the currently selected item in my gallery, which is fine for what I wanted to do with it.

For your first question, could you please share more details about the collection? What columns in it and the data type of the column by which you would like to sort? What is the result with the formula you provided?

For the second question, you could make a test that add and display the ID field in the gallery to check if all items have the ID value, if some items have blank ID values, I would recommend you to check the formula of the collection creation.

For the last problem, if the detail form is on a individual screen, I wonder why need to set to some item not selected in the gallery? If I misunderstood that the Gallery and DetailForm are in the same screen, then you could Set the varSelectedItemID variable to a Blank value on the OnChange of those dropdowns:

Set(varSelectedItemID, Blank())

and then apply an If statement on the Item of DetailForm:

If(IsBlank(varSelectedItemID),LookUp(Table1,ID=First(Gallery.AllItems).ID),LookUp(Table1,ID=varSelectedItemID))
