Combine selected text from drop down into formula

I’m trying to avoid having to repeat myself a bunch in this app. 

what I have:
A SharePoint list with a bunch of columns

a drop down

a input field

what I’m trying to do Is when I select 1 or 2 from a dropdown

it will concatenate into the formula changing the reference point for the input field. I’ve tried the following formula with no luck

ThisItem.Concatenate(“‘“,Dropdown4.SelectedText.Value,“TimeIn”,”’”)

the formula output should be 

ThisItem.’1TimeIn’

or ThisItem.’2TimeIn’ depending on the choice in the drop down. 

im trying to avoid having to create 15 days of time in/out fields.

Can yo give a screen shot or give an example to explain further. Are you concatenating in a Gallery?

Before that try:

Concatenate(Dropdown4.SelectedText.Value,"TimeIn")  

Or

Concatenate(Dropdown4.Selected.Value,"TimeIn")

Yes this is in a gallery 

tried the following formula in the default field

ThisItem.Concatenate(Dropdown4.SelectedText.Value,”TimeIn”) and that didn’t work neither did Selected.Value instead of SelectedText.

Do you want to combine a dropdown and a textbox?

I cannot give a screenshot due to work computer and not sure how much more clear I can make the issue but I’ll try

when I select a number from a drop down. That number will be Concatenated into the default field of a text input field that correlates to the column on a SharePoint list. 

for example - if 1 is selected then the default field of the text input formula would look like 

ThisItem.’1TimeIn’

of 2 is chosen the formula would then be changed to ThisItem.’2TimeIn’

problem I’m running into is getting the Concatenate formula right.

If you selects 2 from the dropdown, using the formula

Dropdown1.Selected.Value&" "&ThisItem.TimeIn

Or

Dropdown1.Selected.ColumnName&" "&ThisItem.TimeIn

Will produce somthing like: 1 6/22/2020

While that works that is not what I am trying to do. 

im trying to use Concatenate to alter a formula based on a drop down so that the column reference in a SharePoint list for a text input changes to what is in that column for that list. 

the text field currently has a formula for ThisItem.’1TimeIn’ Which is a reference to one column in the SharePoint list. 

what I’m trying to do is when I select a number in the dropdown it will change the 1 in the TimeIn formula to whatever value is in the dropdown so it changes the list column reference to that other column.

Hi @Castner ,

Sorry, I am afraid what you want can't be achieved in PowerApps for now.

The column can only be hardcoded,  it can't be referenced by any variable. If you want this feature, please vote for this idea.

The only workaround is to hardcode the column name in If/Switch function as follows.

Switch(Dropdown4.Selected.Value, 1, ThisItem.1TimeIn, 2, ThisItem.2TimeIn, etc.. )
