Combo Box items not visible (text not showing)

Hi

I'm new to Power Apps and I have an issue regarding showing items in Combo Boxes.

I'm currently building a price lookup app, and everything seems to be working fine, except i can't see items in my Combo Boxes.

The items are there, and when selected they work fine with filtering my Gallery - i just can't see the text. It's as if the text is invisible.

Although I'm also unable to search in the Combo Box.

See attached screenshot.

Any advise? I feel like i have tried everything - but at the same time don't really know where to look.

I'm using PowerApps for Teams btw. if that makes any difference.

@Daniel_Pa Thanks for the response.

Using the Distinct will be central to the app I would like to build. So if the function does not work with the combo box then Power Apps for Teams is of no use. It seems so odd that something so central does not work.

Plus I have found other "simple" bugs e.g. string arrays that display as numbers within the combo box that fill me with little confidence that I won't find larger issues as I go further down the line.

So it seems best to avoid Power Apps for Teams as the tool I start building my first production app attempt with.

Thanks for sharing the workaround for the large dataset. I think I get it. Neat thinking 🙂

Hi mojojo

Yeah, i'm also hesitant with Power Apps for Teams forward. But developing them in the browser suite and posting to Teams also works fine. 🙂

Best of luck!

I was fighting with exactly the same issue and found out that DisplayFields/SearchFields properties need to be set to ["Result"] when you use Distinct or Distinct/Sort functions in your Items property, ie Sort(Distinct(Source, Column),Result). I spent so much time figuring this out - hope this will help someone.

This solution may not be required anymore, but it took me some time to figure out why my combo box was working as expected but the items were not being displayed. I'm sure this solution will help someone in future.

After changing the Items property to Distinct(Table, Column), go to the combo box's Properties->Fields->Edit

Add a field "Value" and place it on the top of the fields, or delete out all the other fields. This Value field is what is created from the Distinct function and if the combo box can't see the field "Value" it returns all the correct values, but cannot display them.

Hope this helps.

Thanks!  This worked for me!!!

This fixed it for me! Thanks

I don't think it has much to do with the dataset size, here is what I learned.

For some reason there seems to be an additional bug that is going on with the combobox. Sometimes I will adjust the formula in the "Items" properties. It will not show any errors, and then what happens is the correct number of distinct categories will show up, and when I select them, the other dependent comboboxes will respond to the selection, but the original combobox only shows blank values... Then I copy and paste that formula, delete the combobox, and create a new one, paste the formula in, and it works, even though I have not made any changes to the formula. This is a bizare bug.

EDIT: What this guy said above fixes it!!

This was the solution in my case - good find! Thanks!
