Combo box filtering

Hi,

I suspect this question has been asked many times, but all of the solutions I've read so far are for slightly different issues. I have two Combo boxes that both accept/require multiple entries:

Combo A contains the departments:

1, 2, 3, 4, 5

Combo B contains the assets:

A, B, C, D, E, F etc.

Both of these are from the same sharepoint list (Column A & B).

I'd like Combo B to display all of the relevant assets dependant on the department(s) selected. This is for a sharepoint list, so it would be good if the selections could be seperated by a delimiter.

Filter('Data', Dept = ComboA.Selected.Value) - This works, but only displays assets for the last selected department.

I tried altering the formula based on other posts, but the one below doesn't return any value:

Filter('Data', Dept in ComboA.SelectedItems.value)

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Jordan

Hi @Jordan359 ,

To filter Combo Box B based on multiple selections in Combo Box A, you can use the Filter function with the in operator. Here's the correct syntax:

Filter(Data, Dept in ComboA.SelectedItems.Result)

Ensure that 'Data' is your SharePoint list name, 'Dept' is the department column in that list, and 'ComboA' is the name of your department combo box. This formula will update Combo Box B to show assets related to all selected departments in Combo A. The .Result is used because SelectedItems returns a table, and you need to compare against the 'Result' column of that table.

Note: After receiving the answer, if you think it's helpful, please consider accepting it. 😊 Regards! Ali Shahzad

Hi @Pro_User_365,

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work. Using the formula above, Combo box B doesn't show any values even when selecting a single department. As a sanity check, I reverted back to the first formula

Filter('Data', Dept = ComboA.Selected.Value)

to check that my references were correct. Again, it works, but only displays assets for the last selected department.

Any further advice? 😀

Thanks,

Jordan

To fix the issue with Combo Box B not displaying values based on multiple selections from Combo Box A, revise your formula as follows:

Filter(Data, Dept in ComboA.SelectedItems.Result)

Here, ensure that Result corresponds to the exact name of the column in the 'Data' SharePoint list that contains the department names. If the column name differs, replace Result with the correct column name from your SharePoint list. If Result is not the correct field, the formula won't work. The SelectedItems property returns a table, and you must reference the specific column within that table that contains the department names you want to filter by.

Unfortunately, I still can't get it to work. Here is the share point list and column I'm referencing:

As it's the first column in the list, I've tried to using 'Title' and 'Group' in the formula but neither work.

Filter(Group_Tech, Group in Group_Combo.SelectedItems.Result)

The data source selection criteria is as follows:

Jordan359_2-1700974492059.png

I've set the Display Field to "field_1" which is the column name on the sharepoint.

It's probably a simple error on my end, but appreciate the advice.

Thanks,

Jordan

@Jordan359 ,

You have a many-to-many filter there - I am a little unclear on the actual names are there seem to be 2 versions, however assuming Group_Tech is your Data Source, Group is the multi value field and Group_Combo is the multi-choice combo box displaying choices for the field.

Ungroup(
   ForAll(
      Group_Combo.SelectedItems As _Groups,
      Filter(
         Group_Tech,
         _Groups.Result in Group
      )
   ),
   "Value"
)
