Combo box not updating field in edit mode

Hello, can anyone help?

I have a series of cascading combo boxes.  The first combo box is used to define the contents of the following combo boxes, everything works fine in new form mode, but not in edit.

ComboBox1 (used to define the following combos)  **This does seem to work fine**

Items = Distinct('LBG Dropdowns',Panel)

Defaultselecteditems = {Result: Parent.Default}

Datacard for ComboBox1

Update = ComboBox1.Selected.Result

Default = ThisItem.'Control Unit'

ComboBox1_1 (contents defined by above)

Items = Filter('LBG Dropdowns', Panel = ComboBox1.Selected.Result)  **Works fine

DefaultSelected Items = Table({Value:Parent.Default}) **This also works fine

Datacard for ComboBox1_1

Update = ComboBox1_1.Selected.Alarm_conf

Default =

If I submit the form I have to reselect the item from ComboBox1_1 even though the item is already there.  If I do not select the item again the item is blanked out in the sharepoint list.

I believe my problem is something to do with the defaultselecteditem not being seen by update, however I am not sure how to fix it.

Hopefully someone can help, i'm at my wits end!

Hi @Anonymous ,

The one thing you have not included is the field name and type that ComboBox1_1 is writing to. I have used FieldName below and assumed it is Text.

ComboBox1

Items

Distinct(
   'LBG Dropdowns',
   Panel
)

DefaultSelectedItems

{Result: ThisItem.'Control Unit'}

DataCard

Update

ComboBox1.Selected.Result

Default

ThisItem.'Control Unit'

ComboBox1_1

Items

Filter(
   'LBG Dropdowns',
   Panel = ComboBox1.Selected.Result
)

DefaultSelectedItems

{Alarm_conf: TheItem.FieldName}

Data Card

Update

ComboBox1_1.Selected.Alarm_conf

Default

ThisItem.FieldName

Amazing, this worked.  Thanks so much!

However

I have an issue with the following combo boxes and datacards.

In particular this:

Wayne_H_0-1657271592353.png

I don't really know where to go here.  The datacard field name is Setting Method and the collumn for the dropdown is also called Setting Method.

Any idea?

@Anonymous ,

I suggest you change the name of the drop-down - Ambiguity is something you can definitely do without.

Brilliant stuff, top man this has worked.  Thanks so much!

I am intrigued though, within defaultselecteditems what is {Traffic: ThisItem.'Alarm Configuration'} doing?

@Anonymous ,
A bit backwards to your posted items - you said the output of the Combo Box was

ComboBox1_1.Selected.Alarm_conf

If the name of the field it is writing to is Traffic and it is a Text field, then the DefaultSelectedItems would be

{Alarm_conf: ThisItem.Traffic}

A Combo Box contains a Table and the field name displayed in this table (ComboBox.Selected.????) depends on the Items and/or the settings in the right panel, so when you set what is displayed by default, it has to be a Table, which you enclose in {} brackets in the format {TableField: DisplayedField}, with the first being the "output" of the Combo Box and the second being the field in the data source you want to display.

Thanks for your help @WarrenBelz you are truly amazing!!

Most of my datacards now display and update correctly, however I have two that do not.  The items cascade into the combos as expected, I can select as required but when I hit submit form it fails and blanks out the selected item.

Datacard

Any help would be greatly received!

@WarrenBelz i've manage to solve this by changing DefaultSelectedItems to :

{field_2: ThisItem.'TrafficLights'}

so now the items appear as they should and it looks as if the datacard is happy as the required field warning dissappears, however the form will still not submit, I get the below error:

Wayne_H_1-1657527667664.png

Now i'm completely stumped!!!

Hi @Anonymous ,

It will be the Update of the data card - I need to know the Items of the Combo Boxes and the field name and type they are writing to in your data source.

That's the odd thing.  When submitting a new form its perfectly fine.  Its only when editing an existing.

So thats kinda saying to me that the update is working?

I've just tested by creating a new form, works fine.  I've then gone into edit, not made any changed and again I have the bad gateway error.
