I have a two buttons that sets a global variable. One sets the variables value to Electrical and the other buttonsets it to Mechanical. The variable is called varDiscipline.
I am controlling an objects Visibility with:
If(BrowseGallery1.Selected.'Select Electrical Equipment Type'.Value = "Panelboard", true, false)
I want to change the word Electrical to be varDiscipline. an incorrect exampl of the code would be
If(BrowseGallery1.Selected.'Select varDiscipline Equipment Type'.Value = "Panelboard", true, false)
I don't know how to approach this.
Solved! Go to Solution.
Keep the form in Edit mode by default and you would not need to use the EditForm at that point.
There is not much need for any other mode unless you are anticipating view only.
Beyond that, you have to use switch statements. This is typical in the case when you have a large number of forms on a screen (only one shown based on selection). A common example is that you have only ONE submit button and want it to submit the correct form.
So, for example you have a radio control...then this would be the process in the OnSelect action of the submit button:
Switch(yourRadioControl.Selected.Value,
"Electrical", SubmitForm(formElectrical),
"Mechanical", SubmitForm(formMechanical),
...etc...
)
You have a syntax issue with your formula...I believe it should be this instead:
If(BrowseGallery1.Selected.'Select Discipline'.Value = "Electrical",
//Electrical Equipment Choices
Switch(BrowseGallery1.Selected.'Select Electrical Equipment Type'.Value,
"Panelboard", EditForm(Panelboards),
"Distribution Panel", EditForm(DistributionPanel),
"Main Switchboard", EditForm(MainSwitchboard),
"VFD", EditForm(VFD)
),
BrowseGallery1.Selected.'Select Discipline'.Value = "Mechanical",
//Mechanical Equipment Choices
Switch(BrowseGallery1.Selected.'Select Mechanical Equipment Type'.Value,
"Controls", EditForm(Controls),
"Air Handling Units", EditForm(AirHandlingUnits),
"Boilers", EditForm(Boilers),
"Chillers", EditForm(Chillers),
"Pumps", EditForm(Pumps),
"Hydronic Piping", EditForm(HydronicPiping),
"Plumbing Piping", EditForm(PlumbingPiping),
"Split Systems", EditForm(SplitSystem)
)
)
As it was, the true part of your If statement was just a Text value - which meant nothing.
You can also nest the Switch if you want...like this:
Switch(BrowseGallery1.Selected.'Select Discipline'.Value,
"Electrical", //Electrical Equipment Choices
Switch(BrowseGallery1.Selected.'Select Electrical Equipment Type'.Value,
"Panelboard", EditForm(Panelboards),
"Distribution Panel", EditForm(DistributionPanel),
"Main Switchboard", EditForm(MainSwitchboard),
"VFD", EditForm(VFD)
),
"Mechanical", //Mechanical Equipment Choices
Switch(BrowseGallery1.Selected.'Select Mechanical Equipment Type'.Value,
"Controls", EditForm(Controls),
"Air Handling Units", EditForm(AirHandlingUnits),
"Boilers", EditForm(Boilers),
"Chillers", EditForm(Chillers),
"Pumps", EditForm(Pumps),
"Hydronic Piping", EditForm(HydronicPiping),
"Plumbing Piping", EditForm(PlumbingPiping),
"Split Systems", EditForm(SplitSystem)
)
)
Are 'Select Electrical Equipment Type'and 'Select varDiscipline Equipment Type' both controls in your Gallery?
Otherwise, what you are trying to do with a variable is not something you can do in PowerApps as you cannot reference a control by variable.
Let me change gears here. Because I might have found a way. Can a variable be loaded into the EditForm function?
Such as:
EditForm(varEquipmentype)
No, you cannot reference controls by variables in that way.
If you can provide a little more detail on what you are trying to do and make happen, I can provide some ways to go about it.
I have several forms(10). I have a radio button control that makes each one visible based on which radio button you select. I have all of the forms on one screen. That form might need to be edited. Since there are 10 forms how do I tell my edit button with the EditForm() function on the OnSelect to edit the correct form?
Keep the form in Edit mode by default and you would not need to use the EditForm at that point.
There is not much need for any other mode unless you are anticipating view only.
Beyond that, you have to use switch statements. This is typical in the case when you have a large number of forms on a screen (only one shown based on selection). A common example is that you have only ONE submit button and want it to submit the correct form.

Switch(yourRadioControl.Selected.Value,
"Electrical", SubmitForm(formElectrical),
"Mechanical", SubmitForm(formMechanical),
...etc...

Can you run an if statement that runs a certain switch statement in the true value then another switch statement in the false value?
Yes, you can do that!
I changed from radio button to a gallery because it just needed more information on what you were selecting. This code exists on the OnSelect of a button. However, when I click the button nothing happens and my form stays in view mode. Do I need to attach a variable to the displaymode to turn it to .Edit? I have everything set to an Edit Form because there are close to 200 hundred questions and I don't want to maintain a Detail form and an edit form.
Here is what I have so far:
If(BrowseGallery1.Selected.'Select Discipline'.Value = "Electrical", "Mechanical",
//Electrical Equipment Choices
Switch(BrowseGallery1.Selected.'Select Electrical Equipment Type'.Value,
"Panelboard", EditForm(Panelboards),
"Distribution Panel", EditForm(DistributionPanel),
"Main Switchboard", EditForm(MainSwitchboard),
"VFD", EditForm(VFD)
),
//Mechanical Equipment Choices
Switch(BrowseGallery1.Selected.'Select Mechanical Equipment Type'.Value,
"Controls", EditForm(Controls),
"Air Handling Units", EditForm(AirHandlingUnits),
"Boilers", EditForm(Boilers),
"Chillers", EditForm(Chillers),
"Pumps", EditForm(Pumps),
"Hydronic Piping", EditForm(HydronicPiping),
"Plumbing Piping", EditForm(PlumbingPiping),
"Split Systems", EditForm(SplitSystem)
)
