Creating userform to input data to Excel. Is this possible?

This is my first go at PowerApps.

Is it possible to export data from a form in my app to an Excel workbook? The xlsx is saved on my OneDrive for Business account, I was able to make the connection to the OneDrive but when I attempt to connect to the workbook I get an error "Tables did not load correctly". I feel like I might be misunderstanding the basic concept here, can a PowerApp export data to an outside connection or can they simply use that connection as a data repository to load in the app?

Hi Dom, the way I see PowerApps is as a front end for data which is primarily stored elsewhere.  You can store some data in the PowerApp itself, but it should be for the functioning of the App (say user preferences for certain default filters etc.) and not your actual business data.

When you connect to an Excel workbook on OneDrive, then the table in the workbook becomes your external storage for the PowerApp.

I suspect that the tables in your workbook may have issues (for example one above the other in the same worksheet so that rows cannot be increase without conflicts)

I suggest you create a new Excel workbook from scratch and create in it only one simple table (but a real Excel table) with two columns with column names with no spaces and two rows of sample data.  Then try to connect to this workbook from a new blank PowerApp.

Describe your steps of connecting

There are two basic steps you need to take:

1) Sign into your PowerApps web site https://web.powerapps.com/ and add a connection with the following steps:

Manage->Connections->New connection

You should choose something like One Drive

2) In PowerApps Studio, after you create your app, add the connection to your Excel file in One Drive with the following steps:

Content->Data sources->Add data source and then choose One Drive

Thanks, but I am familiar with them. I just wanted to make sure OP is too 😉 Because sometimes PowerApps just fails to make the connection to the tables

Hi

Please search within the forum on Fail Loading Table's reasons.

We have found that failur to load may due to:

1. Formulas inside original Excel Table (PowerApps only read RAW DATA).

2. Pre-entered "Date" which confused the Apps. (If you have Date, please leave it blank and try to enter from App with proper date format)

That's where I was running into issues. After I made the connection I couldn't get the app designer to recognize the connection. I haven't had the time to tinker with in in about a week (other projects) but tomorrow I'm gonna spend an hour or two trying to get it up and running.
