Custom SPO form - getting your data... while form is in edit mode

Hello everyone,

I have 2 SPO lists: P1 and P2. Column Project in P2 is a lookup column, getting the information from P1 - Project column.

The goal is: Create a custom form on P1 list - data should be submitted to both P1 and P2 lists at the same time. P1 contains columns related to project details, P2 contains tasks. In P2, each Project should have 1 task per line. 

What I did so far:

Created a custom form from P1 SPO list (single screen)

Removed the default SPOForm and added 2 Forms: 1 for P1 and 1 for P2

Added a gallery to display the items submitted for P2

Set the default value of Project for P2 (lookup column) with a variable created (varParentItem) - that is Item property of form P1 and OnSuccess for the Form 1 OnSuccess:

This works so far, if I am creating a new form in SPO, data is submitted to both lists - lookup column in P2 is filled in as well. 

The issue is that I cannot edit items.

P1 list - select item - edit - displays: Getting your data... for both forms. 

I tried with both form mode new / edit for both forms, it is the same. 

Form P1 - item property: varParentItem

Form P2 - item property: nothing

I cannot add the default: If(
IsBlank(SharePointIntegration.Selected) || IsEmpty(SharePointIntegration.Selected),
First([@P1]),
SharePointIntegration.Selected
)

to the item property of form 1 - maybe because I removed the default SPOForm and added 2 custom forms (did so because i have to save the first form with a submit button in order to be able to create entries in the 2nd one and fill in also data in the lookup column).

I managed to filter the first form with: LookUp(P1,ID=SharePointIntegration.SelectedListItemID) - works fine. I do not manage to get the 2nd form to display the values from P2 that are corresponding to the project from P1. 

Do you have any idea on this? any help is very much appreciated, i am new to power apps.

Hi @Anonymous ,

Quite simply you are doing something that integrated forms were never designed to do - switch records while inside an open session and still have the base record selection (based on SharePointIntegration.SelectedListItemID, which is only thing you can rely on to always update when you choose a new record from SharePoint).
Logically, you can try to set a Variable (gblID will do) on the OnSuccess of the Form

Set(gblID, Self.LastSubmit.ID)

and have something like this as the Form Item

If(
   gblID > 0,
   LookUp(
      P1,
      ID = gblID
   ),
   IsBlank(SharePointIntegration.Selected) || IsEmpty(SharePointIntegration.Selected),
   First([@P1]),
   SharePointIntegration.Selected
)

and have App OnStart

set(gblID, 0)

which should work EXCEPT when the user simply selects another record from SharePoint without refreshing the browser, Power Apps "helpfully" for performance reasons caches the form and simply opens it wherever it was when you closed it last and does not run App OnStart (or even Screen OnVisible so you end up with the last record displayed as gblID still has a value).

So that was a very long way of telling you I do not believe there is a solution to what you are doing except make the whole thing a Canvas App (which I do long before I have even considered multiple records or forms).
