Customizing Issue Reporting Sample App

I'm tasked with creating an Issue Tracker for my team at work, and looking into the options I have, I came across these Issue Reporting and Manage Issues sample apps designed by Microsoft. They are quite close to what I need, but one of the major drawbacks is that the 'Questions' in the Issue Template of reporting form seems to be only of type textbox. Please see below.

I would like to be able edit the type of questions so I can make them dates, choices etc. For example, I need a Priority (High, Low, Normal) and Status (New, In Progress, On Hold, Closed) where the user can make selections.

 

Is there a way to customize the app so I can provide a better 'Issue Submission' form to the eventual end user?

Hi @SachS , 

Glad to know you are planning to use the Issue Reporting app. I was part of the team that created that app. Here is a link to the architecture of the solution: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/teams/issue-reporting-architecture

 

What you can do, at a high level, is to add a Choice field/column to the Questions table. This will be used to store question type. Then in the gallery of questions you will add all the possible control types and make the correct one visible based on the question type.

Thanks, good to hear from the developers themselves, and kudos on a great job. So it seems like there's no straightfoward way to do this but go in and change the tables. I'll look into it, thanks.

 

While I have you hear, do you have any plans to make that kind of changes in the near future? I think this would be a major requirement of a lot of people who might use this system.

Thank you! That's kind of up to Microsoft if they want to make this extension/change part of their releases. That being said, I can write a blog, clearly stating the steps that will be needed to make this work. Let me know if that will be helpful. I have actually implemented that in some of my other projects (they haven't used this template but the approach is the same).

Hi @SachS - I'm actually trying to accomplish the same thing right now. Any luck? If so, would you mind sharing any resources you used, besides the link @PowerAddict provided above, or tips and tricks?.....maybe even a step by step guide....

 

I've been going at this for a long time and the last step is changing the type of questions on the form. Ideally looking to add a file attachment button as well.  

@Anonymous I haven't had the time to work on this since, and was waiting to see if @PowerAddict would come up with a blog post. So, as of now, unfortunately I don't have anything to help you with.

Summer of Solutions | Week 4 Results | Winners will be posted on July 24th

We are excited to announce the Summer of Solutions Challenge!   This challenge is kicking off on Monday, June 17th and will run for (4) weeks.  The challenge is open to all Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, Copilot Studio & Power Pages) community members. We invite you to participate in a quest to provide solutions in the Forums to as many questions as you can. Answers can be provided in all the communities.    Entry Period: This Challenge will consist of four weekly Entry Periods as follows (each an “Entry Period”)   - 12:00 a.m. PT on June 17, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on June 23, 2024 - 12:00 a.m. PT on June 24, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on June 30, 2024 - 12:00 a.m. PT on July 1, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on July 7, 2024 - 12:00 a.m. PT on July 8, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on July 14, 2024   Entries will be eligible for the Entry Period in which they are received and will not carryover to subsequent weekly entry periods.  You must enter into each weekly Entry Period separately.   How to Enter: We invite you to participate in a quest to provide "Accepted Solutions" to as many questions as you can.
