Dataverse Connector Error For Guest Users

Hello,

I built a Canvas Power App as a combination supplier portal and internal order / invoice processing tool.

Everything works well for internal users and for 80% of external supplier users that we provisioned guest accounts to.

However, one of our suppliers with about 20% of all users is facing issues where none of them can consistently access the Power App because as the app loads, it pops up with a Connections screen asking them to create a Dataverse connection. That is the only connection it asks for. When they go to create a connection, they select their account & press Create, but it just returns an error saying "We were unable to create this connection. Please try again." And the error details do not give any helpful details.

One of the users for this supplier successfully logged into the app initially. But then he clicked another link to log in again & show the other users and he got the same error shown above.
Most of these users are internationally based outside the US and they thought maybe it had something to do with some of them not being logged into the VPN, but then they logged in to the VPN and still got the same error.

We're checking with my organization's IT people to see if they did anything different when setting up the guest users & licenses for this supplier, but I don't think we had many differences when setting them up.

I'm at a bit of a loss for what may be causing this issue, any more information, advice, &/or help is appreciated.

Thanks,

EDITs:

Still having issues even after the supplier tried turning off their VPN & firewall settings.

Hi @takolota ,

This one is related to SharePoint. How about Application Insights? Enable it until you got an issue. Your situation is very critical. Users are having the same configurations few are working and a few are not. Application Insights will help.

@AbdulWahab

It's SharePoint but the rest of the set-up is the same so it is a more similar scenario than any other link provided in the thread thus far.

I just set up the Application Insights as suggested, but given this is an error that occurs before the user can fully access the app, I'm not sure it will provide any further insights or even register that the user can not log in. I also already had the preview feature of formula level errors on and sending me an email any time there is an error in the app. But again that is not triggered because this error occurs before the users can create a connection to Dataverse to actually log into the app.

To add more context, we were relying on a setting to automatically add the premium licensing to all the users under a Pay As You Go model once they attempt to use the app. Although other users have not had issues with this part, we figure it is worth a shot explicitly giving some of the users with issues Power Apps premium licenses to see if maybe that helps them.

@takolota

Just adding something left field here.

Could your users be trying to access the app via a link that was sent to them which has expired credentials embedded?

I came across something similar the other day where a user suddenly couldn't access an app they use all the time - different error message to yours though. After checking a number of options I finally worked out that they had recently changed their password ... and ... were using a saved Bookmark to access the app. Seems that the bookmark stored their credentials - something new to me - which was why they couldn't access the app.

They just accessed the app via

9-dot Waffle --> PowerApps --> Apps --> select app

... and it worked again.

I guess you could try sending a new/current app link to see if that works? Just spit-balling but maybe worth a shot?

If my response solves your question, please accept as a solution.
Thank you!

@EddieE

I’m afraid we already had them try on several different links, including directly adding their accounts / email addresses to the app permissions again & having them try in a private browser.

We’re going to try again tomorrow with people from both our IT departments.

Hello,

One of the users was able to log into the app on his iPad at home after downloading the Power Apps app from the app store.
They still can't make the Dataverse connection & log into the app on their work desktop computers so we brought on one of their IT admins and he is double checking aspects of their firewall & network to see anything that may be blocking their connection to Dataverse.

I am once again asking for support on this & would appreciate more MS clarity here.

So the external org users that we set up were able to log into the app after adjusting their firewall for a time. But then a few weeks later, as they go to log into the app, all the users from that org get an error saying they need to fix their Dataverse connections for the app. When they try to fix the connections, it doesn't work & they get another error. But when I gave them the username & password to a dummy guest user using an @Outlook.com domain instead of their organization emails domain, they were able to log into the app with that on their work computers. So it may not just be their network.

So we then completely deleted & recreated the guest user account for one of the external org users & I redid all the app permissions for him. This avoided the broken connection error, but then he got the same error we originally started this thread with. But I suspect they could still log in using the dummy @Outlook.com guest user account I shared with them.

Also, the two other supplier external organizations we are working with on this don't have any issues logging into the app.

This is making very little sense as we now have indications that it is an error specific to their organization, but maybe not specific to their network.

Is is possible there are any Office365 / Azure / MS Organization settings apart from network settings/network security that could cause issues creating Power Apps connections for accounts in a specific organization?
Can a Microsoft staff member here get in touch with us for this very weird scenario?

Hi @takolota ,

Did you try to share the app directly with the guest user?

Have you already granted access through the security role to that user?

My guest users are working perfectly with this approach. They are using apps in offline mode and synching data to or from dataverse once they are online.
