Date disappears upon edit

Hello,

I have a power app with a form connected via sharepoint list, the date value on the from always disappears after you click on the value or try to edit the value. It's a simple date selector that automatically selects today's date when creating a record. This is what is used:  Text(Today(), "dd/mm/yy")

I have the same formula for a month selector and it works completely fine  Text(Today(), "mmmm") So I can't see why this may happen with the date, any suggestions?

Hi @Universal_Power , Use "dd/mm/yy" on the Format property of date picker control.

Edited the format as you suggested but I'm still encountering the same issue

@Universal_Power I hope you are using classic control ? And the DefaultDate should be just Today(). Also do you have any code on the OnChange of date picker?

When i set the default date as Today() It keeps the value. Meaning when tomorrow comes, it loads the date as a new date. That's why I had it as Text(Today(), "dd/mm/yy")[this code is on the on select property] When I do it like this, the day loads and does not switch to a new date. I don't have any code on the on change property. I'm also not using a date picker it's just an input field.

Hi @Universal_Power , These are very small small things that you should mention clearly in your question. As per the wording that you have mentioned, you are referring to date selector:

ANB_0-1720200370961.png

Now you are telling that it is input text field. This is confusing for people who are reading it for first time. ALway try to keep clear information to get quick help.

Now, coming to your issue, I believe you have written  Text(Today(), "dd/mm/yy") on the HintText property of TextInput control and that is reason when you try to edit , it disappears.

You should have Text(Today(), "dd/mm/yy") in the default property of TextInput control and the format can be

TextFormat.Text.

Apologies, I see how that would be confusing, and it makes sense to put it into the default, however when I do that, I am unable to edit the date, it always switches back to the current date. Additionally there is no value in the "hint text" field

@Universal_Power Could you please help me with your exact requirement?

Why do you need InputText control with default value as today date and that too allowing users to edit the control? Also please share some screenshots with properties of controls properly visible.

Thanks,

ANB

Okay so for context, It's supposed to be an app that tracks feedback on an employee and you log it based on the date, person questioned and add comments notes attachments etc. I didn't use the date selector for the date but opted to use a text input because I was having issues with the date selector. Everything else works fine and the date also works fine but if I add the today() function on the default value of the date input box, the date always stays at the current date. If i add it on the on select field, it retains the appropriate date but if you try to edit said date (perhaps you made an error logging the date) it clears the field and leaves it blank. This screenshot is me having the formula for today() in the default field.

@Universal_Power What do you mean by on select field? Are you refereeing to OnSelect property of the Input Text control? If yes then OnSelect property will trigger the code when the control is selected.

Also what is issue you are facing with date picker control? I still didnt get end goal. I mean what do want to achieve here.

Thanks,
