DateTime Button

How do you create a date and time button on Power Apps, basically what I'm trying to do is create a clock in button that when an employee clicks it, it displays the date and time that the button was pressed and also a another button for clock out that will also display the date and time that person clocked out.

Ok @Anonymous

I think the only solution to this is as below - can you please consider following exactly what is done here including the naming of the controls, card and form. If you want to use other names, replace them in the code with your names.

Firstly, it looks like this.

ClockIn.gif

The button must be in the card

The field names I have used are as below

ClockInFields.pngThe Default on the card (named ClockInDateCard here) - replace with the name of your field if different.

ThisItem.ClockInDate

The OnSelect of the ClockInButton is

UpdateContext({vInTime:true});
Reset(ClockInDay);
Reset(ClockInHour);
Reset(ClockInMinute);
SubmitForm(TimeForm);
UpdateContext({vInTime:false})

This sets the time, writes the data to the list and disables the button. If you open the form again with a date already there, it will be disabled.

The DisplayMode of the ClockInButton is

If(
    IsBlank(ClockInDay),
    DisplayMode.Edit,
    DisplayMode.Disabled
)

The DefaultDate of ClockInDay is

If(
    vInTime,
    Today(),
    Parent.Default
)

The Default of ClockInHour is

If(
    vInTime,
    Hour(Now()),
    Text(
        Hour(Parent.Default),
        "[$-en-US]00"
    )
)

The Default of ClockInMinute is

If(
    vInTime,
    Minute(Now()),
    Text(
        Minute(Parent.Default),
        "[$-en-US]00"
    )
)

I believe this solution will work for you

OK @Anonymous ,

Now to the probably easiest solution

Delete everything out of the card except the label, and put in a Text Input. I will show you it working firstClockInSingle.gif

Here is the structure as before

ClockInSingle.png

ClockInButton - OnSelect

UpdateContext({vInTime:true});
Reset(ClockInTime);
SubmitForm(TimeForm);
UpdateContext({vInTime:false})

ClockInButton - DisplayMode

If(
    IsBlank(ClockInTime),
    DisplayMode.Edit,
    DisplayMode.Disabled
)

 ClockInTime - Default

If(
    vInTime,
    Now(),
    Parent.Default
)

ClockInTime - DisplayMode

If(
    IsBlank(ClockInTime),
    DisplayMode.Edit,
    DisplayMode.View
)

I have added this - it puts the date in View mode as well as disabling the button so the date cannot be altered again.

Now the important addition - ClockInDateCard - Update

DateTimeValue(ClockInTime.Text)

 This is probably a much better look for your staff.

Hi @Anonymous , To do one that will toggle blank then the current time each time a button is pressed.
First a button

UpdateContext({vTime:!vTime})

Then a Text Input with the Default

If(
   vTime,
   Text(
      Now(),
      DateTimeFormat.LongDateTime
   )
)

So, you need two of these and two text inputs. You might also write the data on the first click and simply not toggle back.

To achieve this:
1. Create 2 Textboxes, one for time in and one for time out
2. Insert 2 DatePickers, DatePicker1 and DatePicker2
3. In textbox1 for time in put in the default: Datepicker1. SelectedDate
4 in textbox2 time out put this formula on the default: Datepicker2. SelectedDate

@WarrenBelzThe solution worked but the only issue is when I click on the clock out button it also changes the clock in text input the same thing when I click the clock in button it changes the clock out text input, should the formulas be different to differentiate between both buttons and text inputs.

Hi @Anonymous ,

You can leave the clock running and not refer to it - the variable Now() will pick up the time when required.

I don't quite understand what you mean, So if I create two buttons and two text inputs, do I put in the formula you  posted for both of them and remove the Now() part, cause with both buttons and input the formulas are the same and every time I try to clock in or clock out it changes the other to that time too, so how can I change it that whenever you clock in the time won't change when you try to clock out, also how would the clock in and clock out details show in the details form, cause after submitting the clock in/clock out information the time inputs aren't visible on the browse screen as well as the details screen.

Hi @Anonymous ,

So I can get my mind around what you are trying to achieve without seeing your app, I need to clarify a few things.

Do you want the clocks on the buttons to run then stop when the user clicks them and display the start and finish times? If so does this time need to display every time a day record is opened.

My Now() suggestion was really to say you don't need the clocks in the buttons, can have a running clock elsewhere on the form and can display the Start and Finish times in fields when the button is clicked.

Can you please supply a screenshot of what you are trying to do?

What I want is that when they click on whichever buttons the text input would reveal the date and time of that input.  Just want the date and times to be recorded on to the sharepoint list.

This is how the app looks like with the buttons and inputs.

Screenshot (24).png

The suggestion offered is also good and at least that way the input will be added to the respective fields, the only thing is just how to do it.

OK Thanks @Anonymous ,

Now I see there is no clock - you just want the dates put in those fields in the SharePoint list (I assume they are connected to it) when the user presses the relevant button. I assume you also to stop multiple presses (once it is pressed, it is set).

I will add a bit to my first post and see if this works for you.

I will call the text controls for the first ClockInTime  and the Button ClockInBtn - replace these with the name of your buttons and obviously repeat for the other button.

So on the OnSelect of ClockInBtn

UpdateContext({vInTime:true});
Reset(ClockInTime)

On the Default of ClockInTime

If(
   vInTime,
   Text(
      Now(),
      DateTimeFormat.LongDateTime
   ),
   Parent.Default
)

This will show the SharePoint field value unless reset by the button, in which case it will change to the current time.

On the DisplayMode of ClockInBtn

If(
  isBlank(ClockInTime),
  DisplayMode.Edit,
  DisplayMode.Disabled
)

This will disable the button if there is a time in the box

Finally, when you exit the screen by screen, reset the Variable - it is also a good idea to do this on screen entrance

UpdateContext({vInTime:false})

Repeat for the out time, but use a different Variable (vOutTime would be good)

Please let me know if this does what you need - I probably should have asked for screenshots earlier.

@WarrenBelzThank you so much that worked perfectly. How would you do this without text inputs, what if you have a datetime field and with the button you update the date and time. Just the same thing as the previous problem just with datetime field instead of text input. Sorry for the inconvenience I'm just trying to see which works better for the end users.
