DefaultSelectedItem not flowing through on Patch?

I have a Combo Box which I have a DefaultSelectedItem property set to be the a variable containing the user account that is currently using the app - Office365Users.MyProfile(). I know the variable is set properly, as I'm using in in other parts of the App, and I can see that in the Combo Box, their user account is selected.

However, when I patch the record back to the SharePoint list, it seems that for whatever reason, this one combo box isn't patching properly. If I go in and select a record, however, it patches properly. So it seems like the DefaultSelectedItem isn't actually selecting it? Even though it is in other places in the App?

Any suggestions on what to check for? I'm stumped. Snippets of code are below.

//OnStart
Set(varUserAccount, Office365Users.MyProfile())

//cmbLocation which is working as expected (DefaultSelectedItem Property)
//grabs last location listed for user
LookUp(
    Filter(
      WeeklyVechicleInspectionReport,
      InspectedBy.Email=varUserAccount.Mail),
    Date=Max(Date),
  Location)
//I have a few other combo boxes prepopulated using this as well, yes I know it's not delegable :)

//cmbSubmitter which is not working (DefaultSelectedItem Property)
varUserAccount

//Patch command (set to OnSelect of button)
Patch(
  WeeklyVechicleInspectionReport,
  Defaults(WeeklyVechicleInspectionReport),
  frmHeader.Updates,
  frmInspection.Updates,
  frmSubmission.Updates);

Thanks for the help!

Hi @mick_swartz ,

Thanks, so valInspectedBy is the name of combo box, right?

If you want to set the default person to current login user, please set the following codes to DefaultSelectedItems property

{
Claims:"i:0#.f|membership|" & varUserAccount.Mail,
Department:"",
DisplayName: varUserAccount.DisplayName,
Email: varUserAccount.Mail,
JobTitle:"",
Picture:""
}

@mick_swartz

The Items property of your Combo should be (is likely?) set to the full table of Office365Users, then your DefaultSelectedItems is a LookUp of this table using your variable in the condition eg

LookUp( Office365Users.AllUsers (<-- not 100% sure of syntax), Mail = varUserAccount.Mail)

Hi @mick_swartz ,

Please share more details about the combo box and its linking field.

What is the type of that field? Person/Group?

What is the Items property of combo box?

What is the Update property of DataCard?

@Anonymous

The Items property is set to Choices([@<SharePoint List>].InspectedBy), which is a Person field in SharePoint, so yes, the Office365Users table. However, I'm not fully following on what you mean by the lookup for the DefaultSelectedItems. My variable is set to the current user, which matches the data type of the list column, so if I put the .Mail when I lookup, I'll be returning the wrong data type? I'm also not trying to lookup in the table, just grab the current user account.

@v-siky-msft

Gladly!

The linked field in the SharePoint list is the Person or Group data type, yes.

The Items property is set to Choices([@<List>].InspectedBy)

The Update property of the Data Card is valInspectedBy.Selected

Thanks!

@mick_swartz

The DefaultSelectedItems needs to come from the Items property. You can set a variable of the same type, etc that you want as the DSI but my understanding is that it must be part of the items set so you use LookUp / in / ?? to reference the Items 'table'

I had a similar issue that may help you understand what I'm talking about as I may not be explaining myself overly well?

@Anonymous nope, totally get what you're saying now. I never thought that would matter that I'm selecting the same record, but from a different method. However, everything that I'm trying as a lookup from the Choices table isn't working syntax wise - did you know how to do a lookup on a choices table with the data type of record?

@v-siky-msft that works! Any chance you could explain a bit more of why that works though? Specifically, what is the "Claims" portion of that? Thanks a ton for that!
