Dependant dropdowns

Hi guys, 

I am using 3 3 drop downs, 2 of which are dependant on the one before. I can use 'distinct' in the coding for the first drop down and the distinct part works. When I try to add the 'distinct' feature to my 2nd and 3rd drop down it doesn't like the coding (see attached photo). It works without the 'distinct' feature but then I have multiple options with the same name (see photo 2) which I don't want. Is there anything I can do to prevent this happening?

Hi @Anonymous ,

You're using Distinct wrong. It should be Distinct(NameOfTable, NameOfColumn).

In this case your filter is the "table" in the distinct. It should work like this:
Distinct(Filter('QMU Meter Reads', Title = Dropdown1.Selected.Result), NameOfColumn)

Thanks for your feedback. I am struggling to link the dropdowns to each other when I change to this way of using distinct (It wants me to have filter in the coding twice) see below:

Dropdown 1 code:

Sort(Distinct('QMU Meter Readings', Title), Result, Ascending)

Dropdown 2 code:

Filter(Distinct(Filter('QMU Meter Readings', Title = Dropdown1.Selected.Result), Block), Result = Dropdown1.Selected.Result)

Drop Down 3 code:

Filter(Distinct(Filter('QMU Meter Readings', Block = Dropdown2.Selected.Result), Utility), Result = Dropdown2.Selected.Result)

I do not see, why you are using the Filter twice in your Dropdown2 and 3 code.

I think this is what should solve it (if I understand your data structure correctly):

Dropdown 1 code:

Sort(Distinct('QMU Meter Readings', Title), Result, Ascending)

Dropdown 2 code:

Distinct(Filter('QMU Meter Readings', Title = Dropdown1.Selected.Result), Block)

Drop Down 3 code:

Distinct(Filter('QMU Meter Readings', Block = Dropdown2.Selected.Result), Utility)

One final question.... trying to patch it to a second sharepoint list called 'QMU meter reads (2)' and my code (which isnt working) is below, any help is much appreciated:

Patch('QMU Meter Reads (2)',{Title:Dropdown1.Selected.Result,Block: Dropdown2.Selected.Result,'Utility': Dropdown3.Selected.Result, ''MeterReading':Value(TextInput2.Text})

There are some syntax errors in your code (Double quotes in front of MeterReading and missing closing parenthesis after TextInput2.Text) !

Please try the following:

Patch('QMU Meter Reads (2)',{Title:Dropdown1.Selected.Result,Block: Dropdown2.Selected.Result,'Utility': Dropdown3.Selected.Result, 'MeterReading':Value(TextInput2.Text)})

Hi, 

No luck unfortunately. When I type in the code should it recognise 'Block' and 'Utility' like it does 'Title'? As currently it doesn't automatically pop up as an option.

From what I understand you are right!

To debug your problem you could temporarily create collections from your data sources: ClearCollect(col1,'QMU Meter Reads (2)'). When you view them afterwards you may see, how the columns are named. It happened to me sometimes (don't ask me why) that the actual names are substituted by 'field1', 'field2'. If this is the case you have to use these names.

It is a bit strange anyway that your data source is called 'QMU Meter Reads (2)'. Is it possible that you have the same list connected twice?
