Displaying forms based on the selection in a dropdown

Hi,

I am currently developing a canvas app on which I need one of two forms ('New Policy' or 'New Policy Standard') to be visible based on the selection in a dropdown. I have achieved this by adding a variable to the dropdown 'on select' property as follows:

If(
    DropProposal.Selected.Value = "New Policy",
    UpdateContext({varProposalType:true});NewForm(frmPolicy);,
    UpdateContext({varProposalType:false});NewForm(frmStandard);
  )

This seems to be working, but I can't figure out how to get the user to arrive at the page with neither form visible, or how to hide both forms if they initially select a dropdown option but then remove it (see image 3 below - this currently defaults to frmStandard).

If someone can help me resolve both issues it would be much appreciated.

Current position:

@Low_Flying_Bird

If(
DropProposal.Selected.Value = "New Policy",
UpdateContext({varProposalType:1});NewForm(frmPolicy);,
UpdateContext({varProposalType:2});NewForm(frmStandard);
)

Make the OnVisible property of the screen UpdateContext({varProposalType:0})

and the visible properties of the forms 1 and 2 respectively.

In addition to this for the piece where "initially select a dropdown option but then remove it" I would actually adjust your on select property to a Switch statement:

Switch(
    DropProposal.Selected.Value,
    "New Policy",
    UpdateContext({varProposalType:1});NewForm(frmPolicy),
    "Standard Policy",
    UpdateContext({varProposalType:2});NewForm(frmStandard),
    UpdateContext({varProposalType:0})
  )

Thanks Drrickryp,

It has accepted the If statement you suggested, but now the forms aren't displaying as required based on the dropdown selection (which they were before).

What do I need to add to the visible properties of the two forms? They won't accept varProposalType:1 and varProposalType:2. They will accept 1 and 2 but the forms aren't then changing in line with the dropdown selection.

The UpdateContext({varProposalType:0}) also isn't hiding the forms when the screen becomes visible.

Apologies, I'm not an expert on variables so I may have misunderstood your advice.

Just varProposalType=1 and varProposalType=2

Just varProposalType=1 and varProposalType=2

Both formulas reduce to either true or false.

Screen

onVisible property:

UpdateContext({resetcontrol: true}); UpdateContext({resetcontrol: false})

Dropdown

reset property:

resetcontrol

Items property:

["New Policy", "Standard Policy"]

OnChange property:

Switch(Self.Selected.Value, "New Policy", NewForm(frmNew), "Standard Policy", NewForm(frmStandard))

frmNew

visible property: Dropdown1.Selected.Value = "New Policy"

frmStandard

visible property: Dropdown1.Selected.Value = "Standard Policy"

Thanks guys,

Both solutions have worked really well.  I appreciate your combined help.

landonjochim - Your latest solution is perfect for resetting the form. Thank you. I just have one resulting question though (sorry, I'm pretty much a newbie on PowerApps!). If I go with your solution, can you tell me what I'd need to change the 'OnSelect' property of my submit button to? It's currently:

If(
varProposalType=1,
SubmitForm(frmPolicy),
SubmitForm(frmStandard)
);

Your Submit Button's OnSelect property should be the following:
Switch(Dropdown.Selected.Value, "New Policy", SubmitForm(frmNew), "Standard Policy", SubmitForm(frmStandard))

I would also make the buttons DisplayMode property the following:

If(IsBlank(Dropdown.Selected.Value), Disabled, Edit)

Finally, make sure on your dropdown, you make the property AllowEmptySelection true

Hope this helps. Please mark the reply as the solution and give a thumbs up if you could. Thanks!

Hi landonjochim,

Thanks so much for your help. You've resolved all of the issues I was having in making the form do what I needed it to. More than happy to give the thumbs up.

I just had one more very quick question. I have a success screen on the form which was working before the changes but now doesn't seem to be. It's not a game changer, I can remove it if its a problem, but it would be nice to keep it.

The OnSelect property on my submit button is now:

Set(
varSubmitSuccess,
Switch(
DropProposal.Selected.Value,
"New Policy",
SubmitForm(frmPolicy),
"New Policy Standard",
SubmitForm(frmStandard)
);
If(
!IsBlank(varSubmitSuccess),
UpdateContext({varSuccess: true}),
UpdateContext({varError: true})
)
)

The visible property on my success screen items is:

If(varSuccess=true,true,false)

It's probably down to my lack of knowledge around variables but can you see anything obvious that's wrong?
