E3 License still sees "PowerApps Trial" page when first log in?

All users in our organization have E3 license, which includes standard PowerApps. However, when users try to open a PowerApps form for the first itme, they are prompt with the "You need a current plan tor trial to use PowerApps - Start a Trial" page, and have to then select "Yes" on page two, and then get authenticated to access the PowerApps form link that was clicked.

Questions: Is there a way to not confuse every user and eliminate the need to see the "Start a trial" page? Users with E3 license who are already logged in to O365, why are they seeing the trial page?

Thanks, advice appreciated.

You have to add the PowerApps license to the users in Office 365. You have the license, you just have not granted it to them.

  1. Got to https://portal.office.com/adminportal/home
  2. Click Active Users
  3. Select a User
  4. Click edit next to product license
  5. Expand out E3
  6. Toggle on PowerApps for Office 365
  7. Click Save
  8. Be a hero!

Shane - Microsoft MVP, YouTube, and PowerApps Consulting for when you are in a bind to get this fixed quickly. And finally we now have PowerApps Training

My company also has the E3 license and many PowerApps have been created and many users are using them but all had to "Start The Trial". I've been on this trial for months now and I'm wondering:

  1. Is this trial going to end? It doesn't seem like it is (I've never been prompted about it)
  2. Will the apps I've created "disappear" when the admin grants me a license on the O365 Admin Center?

It seems to me that if you have the E3 license and then agree to "Start The Trial" that it will never run out because you actually do have the license. Can anyone confirm this or set me straight?

Thank you

That's great!

We are about to roll out few powerapps across almost 800 users.

All they have E3 licenses. Is it possible to make PowerApps available by default to everyone and not to action each user?

Regards,

Pavel

LOL - You probably have to type in each of the 800 names one at a time. Just like you do if you want to share a PowerApp.

Haha, oh no Man Sad

Isn't it possible to share an app with the group?

I don't know what happens when you "turn on" PowerApps in the O365 admin center - I imagine when you turn it on it's on for everyone. Hopefully someone can clairify.

When you create an app you can either share it with your entire organization or type in one name at a time. That's what my options are as the guy who makes the app.

Activating PowerApps is a per user setting but you can use PowerShell to automate it. Depending on the size of your company, your Office 365 Tenant admin should normally know how.

Check this page for more info.

I think the part about actually turning on PowerApps for the users is now clear to everyone. What isn't is how to give permission to an app for, say, 400 or 800 users without typing in one name-at-a-time. There is a crappy workaround for this but it's not very nice.

You can use a security group when sharing an app: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/maker/canvas-apps/share-app. When having the correct Azure AD plan (see next link) you can use something called "attribute-based membership": https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/active-directory/users-groups-roles/groups-dynamic-membership. This is really useful for enterprises.

Sharing an app does not give access to the place where data is stored (I mention this just to be complete). What is possible depends on the data store. SharePoint can use the same security group.

Hopefully does the "attribute-based membership" remark help you.
