Editing SharePoint Item Creates New Item

Alright, ran into another snag I hope you guys can help me with.

So I can create an Item and it all shows up in SharePoint just fine. But when I click Edit in SharePoint and make changes to the information, it creates a New Line Item instead of updating the existing Line Item. Now, I do have a Patch on my Save button, because that appears to be the only way to save the information from a Cascaded DropDown Menu. From my understanding, this destroys the built in functions that Custom Powerapp Forms have already in place. So what can I add to my Patched Save button function (or after) in order to only update an existing record, after clicking Edit in SharePoint? The format I have for my Patch Function so far is:

Patch('DataSource', Defaults('DataSource'),
{
'Column1': DataCardValue1.Text,
'Column2': DataCardValue2.Selected,
'Column3': DataCardValue3.Text,
'Column4': DataCardValue11.Text,
'Column5': DataCardValue13.Text,
'Column6': DataCardValue4.Text,
'Column7': DataCardValue7.Selected,
'Column8': DataCardValue16.Text,
'Column9': DataCardValue5.Text,
'Column10': DataCardValue6.Text,
'Column11': ddEC.SelectedText.Result,
'Column12': ddESC.SelectedText.Value,
'Column13': DataCardValue15.Text,
'Column14': DataCardValue8.Selected,
'Column15': DataCardValue9.Selected,
'Column16': DataCardValue10.SelectedDate
}
); RequestHide()

Been searching for ID related info, Updating a SharePoint, Editing a SharePoint, but can't seem to find anything...or the codes provided are tailored to a specific goal that isn't necessarily the same as mine. A basic update function is all I need, I believe.  A point in the right direction would be very much appreciated! Gonna continue searching

Thank You!

Its your Patch().  Using Defaults(data source) as the second parameter of the patch will always create a new item.  To update an existing item with Patch() you need to identify the specific item you want to update in the second parameter.  There are a number of ways to do this, but one common one is to use a Lookup() in the second parameter that identifies the specific record you want to update.

@Dll10685 This is creating a new item in SharePoint because you have used Defaults('DataSource').

To update the existing list item, you have to pass the item you want to update instead of Defaults('DataSource'), like:

Patch( IceCream, Lookup( IceCream, Flavor = "Chocolate" ), { Quantity: 400 } )

 Or if you are editing the list item after selecting it from gallery:

Patch( IceCream, Gallery1.Selected, { Quantity: 400 } )

For more information about Patch function, check below documetation:

@ganeshsanap @Pstork1 You guys rock! Thanks for the guidance! I was able to search around for LookUp functions (previously thought this function was only for manually looking things up) and I ended up doing this to my Patch function, and now it seems like I can submit new items and edit item lists without creating a new one...
The two differences being the LookUp function replacing the Defaults and the added SubmitForm to submit a new form, since replacing Defaults made it so I could only edit a form after.

Patch('DataSource', LookUp('DataSource', ID = Value(ID_DataCard1.Default)),
{
'Column1': DataCardValue1.Text,
'Column2': DataCardValue2.Selected,
'Column3': DataCardValue3.Text,
'Column4': DataCardValue11.Text,
'Column5': DataCardValue13.Text,
'Column6': DataCardValue4.Text,
'Column7': DataCardValue7.Selected,
'Column8': DataCardValue16.Text,
'Column9': DataCardValue5.Text,
'Column10': DataCardValue6.Text,
'Column11': ddEC.SelectedText.Result,
'Column12': ddESC.SelectedText.Value,
'Column13': DataCardValue15.Text,
'Column14': DataCardValue8.Selected,
'Column15': DataCardValue9.Selected,
'Column16': DataCardValue10.SelectedDate
}
); SubmitForm(SharePointForm1); RequestHide()

Sorry, but not sure what happened....now it's not working. Haha. I swear it was before! But now it wont populate the two cascaded dropdown menus (ddEC and ddESC). Only thing I changed was a completely different field (specifically the Date field, to only generate todays date If another field shows a specific value), and that was it.
I am at least able to workaround this right now by having an Edit Button that submits the LookUp Patch code and a Save Button that submits the Defaults Patch code, but I was hoping for one Save button that does both....saves edits and saves new forms. Is this possible?

The Patch() statement is different for new or Edit, but you can still use Patch() for both conditions.  YOu don't need the SubmitForm.  You just need to know whether it should be a new record or an edited record and use the appropriate Patch().

That's possible if you record somewhere whether you are creating a new record or starting with an existing record.  Then in the Submit button use an IF() to select the correct Patch() statement.
