Filter Screen

Hi,

I'm building my first Power App with no experience (self taught). I'm creating an event registration app to track events and registrations. On my home screen I would like to have two filters, "Upcoming Events" and "Past Events" which will be linked to a gallery. There are two possible ways (that I know of) to do this. I could set the filter formula based on the event date or event status (in my data source I've labeled each event as Active or Inactive). I cannot figure out how to write a formula that will shows the filtered screen appropriately.

From what I can tell, the formula in your image shouldn't throw an error, and should return some values.

Is the items property throwing an error, and if so what is it? 

In the meantime, if you are able to filter by the event status, from what you've stated, and what's in the image, you should be able to try something along the lines of:

  galEventStatus.Selected.TabName = "Upcoming Events",
  Sort(
    Filter(Events, 'Event Status' = "Inactive"),
    'Event Date',
    SortOrder.Ascending
  ),
  galEventStatus.Selected.TabName = "Past Events",
  Sort(
    Filter(Events, 'Event Status' = "Active"),
    'Event Date',
    SortOrder.Ascending
  )
)

 It looks like it doesn't like the equals operators - it seems like this could be that the fields you're comparing them too aren't text.

Off the bat I see we were comparing tabName - which is a label. Use

galEventbyStatus.Selected.TabName.Text

 in the formulas when checking for past/upcoming events.

For the Event Status, what type of field is that?

You may have to put something such as 'Event Status'.Value, or something similar if it's a record being compared.

The "galEventbyStatus" (gallery/table) is a for the tab names thus the text label. See the item value.

I see - it looks like for the filter statements, 'Event Status' is a record, being compared to text.

I suspect you'll need something like:

Filter(Events, 'Event Status'.Value = "Upcoming Events")

Use something like this for both filter functions in the code. You may have to change ".Value" to something else, depending on what 'Event Status' is exactly - it might provide  suggestions for this once you start typing.
