Filter columns and Sum hours

I am fairly new to Powerapps and to Sharepoint. I've only made a couple of simple apps to display information from existing lists and excel forms. Please assume i know almost nothing😁.

What i need is to gather data from a sharepoint list. The columns are Station, Department, ShiftDate, HoursUsed.

The form to collect the information is working fine.

I need to access the information from a powerapp screen, filtered by STATION, then sum the total HOURSUSED for each DEPARTMENT in that station. I've been trying for 3 days to sort dropdown boxes for the station and department, and then populate a piechart to show the total hours for the station, divided by department in the pie.

I'm so stuck and my regional manager is waiting for this.

I don't care how I need to display the info, as long as it's simple and easy for the users. 

PLEASE HELP with the simplest solutions you can.

I am reading between the lines that you are trying to do a PieChart and this is your struggle.

 

Can you describe a little more about how you are selecting the STATION in your app?  Is this by a dropdown?

 

I will assume it is and since I do not know the Items property of your Dropdown, I will assume you have used a Distinct function to get the distinct STATION names  ex.  Distinct(yourDataSource, STATION)

 

If so, then the Items property for your PieChart will be:

AddColumns(
    GroupBy(
        Filter(yourData, Station = yourDropdown.Selected.Result),
        "Department", 
        "_recs"
    ),
    "_sumHours", Sum(_recs, HoursUsed)
)

Then set your Labels to Department and your series to _sumHours.

Do you have a dropdown or something to filter by department? Or do you need the info for all departments simultaneously?

I would prefer to have all of the departments simultaneously with the hours totaled for each

Thanks for providing this solution, but when I enter that code into the items property of the piechart, it locks the item so i cant adjust the label and series. I don't know why or how to fix it. Please advise if you know what i'm doing wrong. Thanks.

You should be able to set the label and series in the advanced properties of the piechart control.

When I enter that code in the items property of the piechart, the pie chart functions lock, like a data card.

It won't allow me to change anything or unlock it. The only thing it will let me do from there is to go back to the top function bar and delete or change the items property. Then it goes back to unlocked.

 

I don't need the departments and sum totals to be in a pie chart, if there is an easier way to sort and display it by station.. Preferably all of the station totals in one view. Thank you so much for trying!

Summer of Solutions | Week 4 Results | Winners will be posted on July 24th

We are excited to announce the Summer of Solutions Challenge!   This challenge is kicking off on Monday, June 17th and will run for (4) weeks.  The challenge is open to all Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, Copilot Studio & Power Pages) community members. We invite you to participate in a quest to provide solutions in the Forums to as many questions as you can. Answers can be provided in all the communities.    Entry Period: This Challenge will consist of four weekly Entry Periods as follows (each an “Entry Period”)   - 12:00 a.m. PT on June 17, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on June 23, 2024 - 12:00 a.m. PT on June 24, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on June 30, 2024 - 12:00 a.m. PT on July 1, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on July 7, 2024 - 12:00 a.m. PT on July 8, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on July 14, 2024   Entries will be eligible for the Entry Period in which they are received and will not carryover to subsequent weekly entry periods.  You must enter into each weekly Entry Period separately.   How to Enter: We invite you to participate in a quest to provide "Accepted Solutions" to as many questions as you can. Answers can be provided in all the communities.
