Gallery Issues for filter and searching

Hi, I have a Power App and am having issues with my Gallery.  My Gallery Items function is, Sort('Safety Observations', 'Date of Incident', SortOrder.Descending) so I can have my items in descending order. I have been trying to add a filter or search function and any time I add any other functions to my Gallery Items, I have errors.

What I want to do is add a drop down for the Reported By entries using this function, Distinct('Safety Observations','Reported By') but how do I add this to my Gallery Items?

Looking for any and all help!

No, it was happening the entire time. I’m just curious how to default it to all items. There’s currently no functions for the combo box  just unsure why this is happening

@anyegaard - some thoughts:

• It is possible a modification has been made to that Combo Box control. Is there anything in the DefaultSelectedItems property for that control?
• Create a new Combo Box control and see if the issue persists
• If you need a quick fix, replace the Combo Box control with a Dropdown control and apply the same Distinct expression to the Items property. Then set the AllowEmptySelection property to true.

I think the issue is that I was using a drop down not a combobox. I just switched to a combobox and updated the gallery item function to the below but am getting 3 errors saying 1&2) Name isn't valid. Value isn't recognized and 3) Incompatible types of comparison. Types can't be compared Text, error and the gallery has disappeared.

The gallery items is set to:

The combo box items is set to: 'Safety Observations' and I have not changed anything else. The gallery is not showing and there are the same errors as in the last message.

I am finding your posts increasingly difficult to follow. As I understand it, the answer to your problem has been solved, but now you have a made a change which has caused an error.

The Distinct function returns a table with a single column called “Value”.

By removing the Distinct function from the Items property in the Combo Box control, the “Value” column no longer exists, and therefore the expression used in the Gallery will error.

Because you have now set the Items property to your Data source ('Safety Observations'), you will need to explicitly “tell” the Gallery which column that Combo Box box is supposed to be use.

Change your expression to:

Sort(
    Filter(
        'Safety Observations',
        Len(ComboBox1.Selected.'Reported By') = 0 || 'Reported By' = ComboBox1.Selected.'Reported By'    ),
    'Date of Incident',
    SortOrder.Descending
)
