Dear Power Community,
I need your support with galleries. I am migrating from another app platform to Power Apps and I am still struggling with it.
I have an app to help me memorize grammar/vocab. So I have a sharepoint list with the values and I always shuffle it.
I put the questions in a gallery element (1) and the answer outside (2). I see one card at a time.
Questions:
1) When I slide to the right and click on the item, it updates the answer:
Label text = Gallery5.Selected.Answer
But when I go to a new item, the old answer should be null (or a question mark). Is there a way to reset the text label on sliding?
On move next, set Label text to "?"
2) Can I know in which position/item of the array I am? For example: item 10 of 100. The total amount of items I could get with countA, but the actual item I couldn't.
3) The data in the gallery comes from a suffle function. The picture has a patch function and whenever I call this function, the gallery refreshes/updates and shuffles everything again. Can I control this behavior?
Thank you so much in advance!
Regards,
Ingrid
Hi,
Sorry being a bit lazy and going for the easy one but for point 1, there is a reset function that you can use throughout your app. So at the appropriate point: Reset(txtControl)
Sometimes you may want to reset multiple controls, in this scenario it can be handy to create a button with the logic of say:
Reset(txtControl1);
Reset(txtControl2)
Then when you want to call and reset multiple controls you would just do something like:
Select(btnResetButton)
Update:
For Point three, you should be able to control what happens based on the OnSelect property of the Image, assuming I have understood correctly.
Going to look into the Item number of a Gallery now...
Update:
For Point two, I was starting to think out loud and say current item of what. What I mean by that is, is this based on what is present within the Gallery now or the list as a whole. Also if you were to change say the sort and what was at the bottom of 5 items, is now the top, should that now be seen as Item 1 and before as item 5.
So I would try and go more down the route of IDs, so if sequential is not an issue, you can do things like Gallery.Selected.Id to work out the specific item within a Gallery. Not sure what you need the item number for? Although re-reading your question you did just want say 10 of 100. However that position could change, maybe not and if not, is it just based on the order in the gallery? If so, you might be able to create a collection based on each row and increment a column called row each time and track the number that way but seems a bit excessive.
Hello Henry,
Thanks for your comments!
For point 1:
The reset function is not what I was looking for... I could help, but I have to add an extra control. I would like to move next and automatically reset.
For Point 2:
I use the app to learn german. I have to "parameters":
Size of array = amount of words to learn/review in a day.
Position in the array = my daily progress.
This position helps me to set a timing. When I am in #30 of #40, I know that just a few more minutes of study will do. But if I am #20 of #80,... 😫
For Point 3:
I have already seen other people asking for help with this issue because it seems that whenever a patch function is called, the data is refreshed. As my source code has shuffle, it shuffles again and again!
In my other app I solved this creating an array with shuffled items and picking the questions and answers by the position.
Actually I am am really stuck because I can't get the items in an array and I can't control this update behavior from the gallery.
