Generation of Unique ID for Attachment or Image Collection list in Sharepoint to correspond with another SharePoint List

Hi All,

Appreciate if someone can help me on this.

How can I generate unique ID every-time the application is used? The purpose is to link the attachment / image control collection in SharePoint with the record that is stored in another Sharepoint list.

For my application, I designed the custom form without using the "Form" control as I find it extremely difficult to adjust the "Form" control to fit into my custom design layout.  Instead, i designed it using "label" and "text input", "radio button", "attachment control" etc and then submit the data into two SharePoint lists using patch and power-automate . However, i can't link them together  if they do not have same unique ID for referencing. Anyone can help on this?

Thank you !

@Boon-1 ,

I probably did not explain this properly (or more tried to explain two things). The arrows are nothing to do with the ID you need to pass and you have got them right anyway.

I was showing you the process and how you both pass metadata and reference the right item to pass it to (the arrows). In the case I sent, my "Site Label" is actually the reference. You need to create a numeric field in your Library (I call mine IDRef when I use this method, but in Power Apps) and then "Ask in Power Apps" in the field (you only have Title there presently, but this new field will appear after you create it and it will then be a parameter in the Flow). You will have to disconnect and reconnect your Flow after you have put this in and saved it and the Parameter will appear at the end in the Power Apps Run() for you to supply the ID.

Hi @Boon-1 ,

If it is a new record you have just submitted via Patch (note that two users posting almost simultaneously can cause issues here) - the newest record in the list is

First(
   Sort(
      YourListName,
      ID,
      Descending
   )
).ID

Hi @Boon-1 ,

Simply use the SharePoint ID of the main list and have a numeric field in the other list (I call mine IDRef when I use it).

When you do the Flow to update the image, send this as a parameter and use Update File Properties in the Flow. One of mine using another reference (Site Label) is below. The arrows are simply showing the linking reference (not this number) for the flow to refer correctly to the item above.

Thanks Warren for the quick reply. Let me try it out and i will post my response on the outcome !

Hi Warren,

I tried to replicate yours steps but it doesn't really grab the ID from the other SharePoint list and update my attachment SharePoint list. Below is the attached screenshot. I don't understand how it really works as I don't see there is an input to reference the other SharePoint list. Appreciate your help here.

Thanks !

Hi Warren,

On further search, I managed to find this video which allows to upload multiple attachment and tag the meta data accordingly, which i believe that can help to update the ID from another SharePoint list into the Photo/Attachment SharePoint List. I followed the steps exactly and even though the flow run successfully, it did not load up to the Photo/Attachment SharePoint list. I checked the flow and realised that the itemID is negative. Could that be the reason why the attachment did not get upload? Would you be able to help?  Thank you in advance !

Hi @Boon-1 ,

Did you get my original solution suggestion working as this was the question I responded to?

Hi Warren,

Thanks I finally manage to get it working as suggested by. However, instead of a ID from the SharePoint list, i passed a dummy reference ID from a input text control value as i struggle to get the ID from the SharePoint list. I tried to get the last ID from SharePoint List and pass it to a "label" but got a error citing that the Data Type is a table where the expected value "label" is text. Any help on this?

Thanks again !
