HOW TO MOVE POWERAPP CUSTOM FORM (INTERGATED WITH SHAREPOINT LIST, NOT STANDALONE APP) FROM DEVELOPMENT TO PRODUCTION ENVIRONMENT

INTENTION/OBJECTIVE:

I created a PowerApp form (in Default development environment) as customised form integrated with a Sharepoint List.

Now, I want to move the PowerApp custom form to Production environment. SharePoint List remain the same one (no change of ListID, SiteID and ListURL).

HOW DID I DO IT & THE ERROR/ISSUE ENCOUNTERED

From PowerApp, I tried Export the Zip package (from Development environment) and then Import the Zip package (as Create New app – in the Production environment) and define with different resource name. But the importation was unsuccessful with a failed message shown below.

“You have already created an application with this name. Please specify a different name. Existing App: '93120c7b-8af3-43e4-8a46-8f53792bb09a'

The sharePoint request failed with error: '{"odata.error":{"code":"-1, Microsoft.SharePoint.SPConnectorException","message":{"lang":"en-US","value":"An App already exists for this list. Remove the existing App before adding a new one."}}}'. The correlation Id is '987dfc7b-33fd-4ed3-842a-f6d98763495a'”

I need advise / solution on the following:-

  • As the error message suggest, do I need to remove/delete the PowerApp custom (developed in Development environment) from the SharePoint List first before I start Importing the Zip package (into Production environment).
  • If I remove/delete the PowerApp custom (originally in Development enviroment) from the Sharepoint, will I be able to restore back the PowerApp custom form later using the same zip package? Just to be sure I can reinstate back the PowerApp custom form (in the development environment) to its original state in case my attempt in Item 1 fails again.
  • Or any other solution to achieve my INTENTION/OBJECTIVE.

Note: From what I understand from various resources from internet, here I do not need to change the configuration (ListID, SiteID & ListURL) in the json file (contained in the zip package) simply because it is the same Sharepoint List.

Your advise/guidance on the above will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance!

Best regards

Sam

Hi @Sams4ung ,

To move a PowerApps custom form (integrated with SharePoint list) from a development to a production environment, you can follow these steps:

  1. Save your PowerApps form in the development environment.
  2. Export the package from the development environment.
  3. Import the package into the production environment.
  4. Update any connections or settings that are specific to the production environment.

Make sure you have the necessary permissions in both environments and back up your SharePoint list data before making changes.

Hi @Sams4ung ,

The difference between what you are doing and what you probably require is that you need to choose Update rather than Create New

You may also have to update some Connections and Flows associated with the app as well - they will be in the bottom panel as shown in the top image. The important thing here is that by doing it this way, it becomes another Version of the target app, allowing restoration of earlier exising versions if required.

Please click Accept as solution if my post helped you solve your issue. This will help others find it more readily. It also closes the item. If the content was useful in other ways, please consider giving it Thumbs Up.

Through a search I got here. The thing is, it's not an "app" and it's a "SharePoint custom form" which are somehow treated differently by Power Apps, the funny thing is you can download them as .msapp but not export them as a .zip to be imported. You can open them, but you can't "import" them. Or at least that's been my experience unless I'm doing something wrong.

As far as I know, Microsoft's official guidance continues to be that PowerApps on SharePoint List Forms are only supported in the default environment:  Customize a Microsoft Lists or SharePoint form by using Power Apps (contains video) - Power Apps | M...

Does anyone have official Microsoft documentation that says otherwise?  I know MS has a powershell command where you can change and designate which environment houses the forms, but I don't believe it is supported to move these forms between environments.

scroll to the bottom of this page and there is a link for a white paper on how to change the sp custom forms environment to something other than the default environment.

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-apps/maker/canvas-apps/customize-list-form

It also includes instructions on how to move a custom from from the default environment to a new prod environment.

I ran the powershell to have new custom forms save to a new environment...however, I'm having an issue where the custom form is being created...but it's not launching from the new item button. 😞

Good luck!
