Help Needed - OnClick, copy Choice from Gallery to Form DataCard

Hi All,

I have a gallery on screen 1. Within this gallery, is an icon. When the icon is pressed, I would like to transfer the data from the gallery to a form on screen 2.

The idea behind this functionality is that if the app user sees a gallery entry that is very close to what they want, they can simply click the icon and quickly amend details, rather than having to fill in a blank form, thus saving time.

For data types from the gallery that are 'text', I have been able to use:

Set(varSalesOrder, Gallery_1.Selected.'Sales Order');

In my form datacards, I simply reference the relevant variable, in this case varSalesOrder

My issue is that when I come to copy a choice from my gallery, the above formula doesn't work, because the dropdown in my form on screen 2 is expecting a 'record' datatype.

Can someone advise please? I have tried using collections as an alternative but I end up getting a similar error. I don't know how I can reference the record or convert it.

Thanks in advance.

Hi @DEaton96 ,

Cool, still I am not sure about the datatype

I feel its lookup value that you are trying to attach.

Also, if you are setting variable then going to the Form to create, I'd say when you click the Copy then navigate directly.

//Step 1: OnSelect of 'Copy' button
Navigate(Screen2, ScreenTransistion.None, {SelectedSalesOrder: Gallery1.Selected});

When you move to next screen then the variable context will go

(Note: If you are going with Set function then data will be present on all screen)

//Step 2: Default property of 'System Type' (DefaultSelectedItems -> if its combobox control)
SelectedSalesOrder

Do try and let me know if you get the value in the field.

Hope this helps

Hi @DEaton96 ,

Let me know if I get your use-case correct.

You would like to copy and move data from selected Gallery record to a new screen where a Form is located and data should be populated.

If this is the case, do clarify

1. Are you modifying same record or you are trying to create new record?

2. When you are selecting the dropdown and then selecting the Icon -> are you saving the dropdown changes before moving to next screen? (Reason: Unsaved data may get lost at times, so proper method needs to be followed)

Let me know and I'll let you know next steps

Hi Ethan,

Yes what you say is correct:

1. I am creating a new record based off of an existing record.

2. Apologies, I might not have been clear here. Please see attached - Capture1 Shows my gallery and the 'copy entry' icon. Capture2 simply shows my form. You can see where I have the error message. It is this form drop-down box I am trying to populate using the pre-existing data from gallery.

Thanks

Hi Ethan,

That worked perfectly, thank-you.

{SelectedSalesOrder: Gallery1.Selected}

Just to confirm,  is the above code snippet essentially an object / a key pair value with the key being called 'SelectedSalesOrder' and it's value is all the data from my gallery? Is this similar to a collection then?

I was making things complicated by assigning each of the data cards in my form on screen 2 a variable. It looks like what you have done is essentially done the same, but used an object to cover all the data, rather than individual variables for each section of data?

Hi @DEaton96 ,

When I used 'SelectedSalesOrder' then I used variable to store data in them. It's dynamic value which will adjust based on datatype that is fed to it. This is the same when you used Set() function to set your Variable globally.

Since, we used 'Gallery1.Selected' it will store a record object which contains several fields from and controls from the Gallery with respect to its source.

When you passed Gallery_1.Selected.'Sales Order' means it only took that field. When you want to put the data into Lookup, you need the record object to set the data in the field.

Also, if you do not have all necessary fields then using Lookup for finding the record and then getting entire Object of record helps.

Glad the solution worked for you 👍🏻
