Help! Network error when using Patch function: The requested operation is invalid.

Hello, I am new to PowerApps. I am building a simple app to scan UPS & FedEx barcodes to a SharePoint List at work.

My App is build like this:

Date Drop Down

Receiver Name Drop Down (Only 2 names)

Carrier Name Drop Down (Only 2)

Scan Button

Collection Space for Scanned items

Notes/TextInput field

Then a clear form and Submit & Save Button.

When the Submit Button is hit - the error "Network error when using Patch function: The requested operation is invalid." appears in the app.

Here is my patch formula (I feel like I am missing a .value or .text, but when I enter those, it get errors again in formula):

Patch(
ReceivingScannerUPSFedEx,
Defaults(ReceivingScannerUPSFedEx),
{
Date: DateDropDown,
ReceiverName: 'ReceiverNameDropDown.SelectedText.Value',
ShippingCarrier: 'ShippingCarrierDropDown.SelectedText.Value',
TrackingNumber: BarcodeScanner1,
Notes: NotesTextInput
}
)

I set up my sharepoint list to match (Date Field, Receiver Name Choice Field, Carrier Choice Field, Tracking Number Text Field, and Text field for notes).

I can not get this to work and update sharepoint. The sample sharepoint I attached was a test list I manually made.

TrackingNumber: BarcodeScanner is trying to save a control as the field and i assume it is expecting something of type text. You need to use First(BarcodeScanner.Barcodes).Value. This will save the most recently scanned barcode to that field.

Same thing with the notes field. Notes: NotesTextInput.Text instead of what you have. This will save the text of the control rather than the control itself.

Same thing with date as well. DateDropDown.SelectedDate

If you still get an issue I would remove the '' from around the ReceiverName and ShippingCarrier fields as that may try to save that as a string rather than saving what that returns.

If this post solves your issue please mark it as a solution.

Hi @SP_Newbie,

You will need to specify what value you would like to store from those controls (e.g. .Value, .Text...). In some cases you are only referencing the actual control. Could you try the adjustment below:

Patch(
ReceivingScannerUPSFedEx,
Defaults(ReceivingScannerUPSFedEx),
{
Date: DateDropDown.Selected.Value,
ReceiverName: 'ReceiverNameDropDown.SelectedText.Value',
ShippingCarrier: 'ShippingCarrierDropDown.SelectedText.Value',
TrackingNumber: BarcodeScanner1.Value,
Notes: NotesTextInput.Text
}
)

You might need to adjust Date to DateValue(DateDropDown.Selected.Value)

However, please note that the Barcode Scanner is considered retired and will be replaced by the barcode reader control.

If this solves your question, would you be so kind as to accept it as a solution.

Thanks!

Hi @mmollet This is what I have for code in my scanner for OnScan:

Collect(
colScannedItems,
{ScannedItem: First(BarcodeScanner1.Barcodes).Value, ScannedTime: Now()}
)

I have the scanner set to save multiple scans at once, that go to the collection. I want that collection to go into

sharepoint (the TrackingNumber field is set up for multiple lines of text in sharepoint).

Hello Lauren,

I am using using the new reader, not the retired one.

I adjusted code and now I have 3 errors.

.Text for tracking Number does not match expected type

Invalid Arguments (I deleted the .text from TrackingNumber and it fixed the errors)

@SP_Newbie in that case you don't need to reference the Scanner within the patch.

You can use a Concat function & the collection in order to create multiple lines of text that contain the scanned item & scanned time.

//Your patch code
TrackingNumber: Concat(colScannedItems, ScannedItem & " " & Text(ScannedTime, "dd/mm/yyyy HH:mm"),Char(10))
//Your patch code

Adjust where necessary 😊

@LaurensM - Wow - everything went into sharepoint except the drop downs for Name & Carrier. I am so close.

Code I adjusted to:

Patch(
ReceivingScannerUPSFedEx,
Defaults(ReceivingScannerUPSFedEx),
{
Date: DateValue(DateDropDown.SelectedDate),
ReceiverName: 'ReceiverNameDropDown.SelectedText.Value',
ShippingCarrier: 'ShippingCarrierDropDown.SelectedText.Value',
TrackingNumber: Concat(colScannedItems, ScannedItem),
Notes: NotesTextInput.Text
}
)

@SP_Newbie perfect, getting close 😊

Could you try the adjustment below:

Patch(
    ReceivingScannerUPSFedEx,
    Defaults(ReceivingScannerUPSFedEx),
    {
        Date: DateValue(DateDropDown.SelectedDate),
        ReceiverName: ReceiverNameDropDown.Selected.Value,
        ShippingCarrier: ShippingCarrierDropDown.Selected.Value,
        TrackingNumber: Concat(colScannedItems, ScannedItem),
        Notes: NotesTextInput.Text
    }
)

(changed SelectedText.Value to Selected.Value - make sure the items properties of those dropdowns are Choices(ReceivingScannerUPSFedEx.FieldName) with FieldName refering to the actual column name)

I hope this helps!

@LaurensM

Sorry, still not putting those fields in. I sent what the Item property field is. Maybe I am putting it in the wrong spot?

Do I need any adjustment in SharePoint?

@SP_Newbie,

Your settings are correct, thank you for the detailed explanation.

I made a small mistake in the previous code, it should be .Selected not .Selected.Value:

Patch(
    ReceivingScannerUPSFedEx,
    Defaults(ReceivingScannerUPSFedEx),
    {
        Date: DateValue(DateDropDown.SelectedDate),
        ReceiverName: ReceiverNameDropDown.Selected,
        ShippingCarrier: ShippingCarrierDropDown.Selected,
        TrackingNumber: Concat(colScannedItems, ScannedItem),
        Notes: NotesTextInput.Text
    }
)

If this solves your question, would you be so kind as to accept it as a solution.

Thanks!
