Help setting default value of Drop Down field (not combo box) for Parameter value

I have 3 parameters in a link sent in an email when a form is submitted so that when the link opens the app, two combo box fields and one drop down field are auto-populated. The 2 combo box fields successfully auto-populate in the app.

I am using {Value:Param("Parameter")} in the DefaultSelectedItems property of both combo boxes.

The drop down box parameter passes correctly and successfully shows in the URL. It also auto-populates correctly in a text label when the app is opened (as a test) but it will not populate the field.

However, drop downs do not have DefaultSelectedItems property and the default property does not like the same syntax I am using with the combo boxes.  I'm guessing there is a very specific syntax needed because my items of the drop down contains the following formula:

Sort(ForAll(Distinct(Filter('Currency Rates',Country = DataCardValue4.Selected.Result),'From Currency'), {Result: ThisRecord.Value}),Result)

(this is what initially populates the value when the form is first submitted.)

Any ideas on how to write the parameter value the drop down default field to make this work?

HI @acoliva,

The Default property of Dropdown box expects a text string value instead of a record value.

So, I think

Param("Parameter")

 will do.

Or, you could try:

LookUp(Sort(ForAll(Distinct(Filter('Currency Rates',Country = DataCardValue4.Selected.Result),'From Currency'), {Result: ThisRecord.Value}),Result),Result=Param("Parameter")).Result

Hi @acoliva ,

Firstly you can improve the bottom filter Items

Sort(
   Distinct(
      Filter(
         'Currency Rates',
         Country = DataCardValue4.Selected.Result
      ),
      'From Currency'
   ),
   Value
)

and it will now have an output of .Value (instead of .Result). The Default would simply be

Param("Parameter")

Please click Accept as solution if my post helped you solve your issue. This will help others find it more readily. It also closes the item. If the content was useful in other ways, please consider giving it Thumbs Up.

Thanks so much for your response. Both of these suggestions seemed perfectly reasonable correct to me as well but the Currency field always turns up blank.  If I add a text label to the screen with Param("Parameter") as the text property, the parameter passes to it successfully but it does not pass to the drop down field.  And I can see it correctly in the URL.

Thank you so much for responding. I tried both suggestions but the Currency (drop down) field continues to display blank.  If I add a text label to the screen with Param("Parameter") as the text property, the parameter passes to it successfully but it does not pass to the drop down field.  I can also see it correctly in the URL.

Hi @acoliva ,

Firstly, is this a Modern or Classic drop-down ? If a Modern control, test with a Classic (for elimination or otherwise). Also try at App OnStart

Set(
   gblParam,
   Parameter("Parameter")
)

Then the Default

gblParam

I do have the parameters set on app OnStart:

Set(varProg,Param("Prog"));Set(varCountry,Param("Country"));Set(varCurrency,Param("Curr"));

These are set successfully. Variable values are successfully passed to second screen on button click after form is filled out. URL shows successful passing in email and on screen :

acoliva_0-1714129686267.png

Upon click of the link, the app successfully populates Program and Country but Currency is always blank.

I created a new blank canvas app and connected my SharePoint list to test modern/classic fields and I think that may have provided a clue as to a possible conflict with my field type and parameter syntax. The currency field in my list is a single line of text. In my original form, I deleted the field then readded it selecting "allowed values" so the data type is text but the field is drop down type because of that allowance.

Does that provide any further clues as to what formula needs to be in the default property? Thanks again!

Hi @acoliva ,

Do you see 'New Zealand' (hi from over the ditch) in the Country parameter or New ? Also is varCurrency successfully set ? If so, a Classic Drop-down with the Default of varCurrency should display it. This should be easy to solve if all the values are being resolved correctly.

All variables are set successfully in every test I've run. Here is the last test with New Zealand after passing variable values.

I updated the default property of currency field to varCurrency -I have tried this before 😞  When I click on the link in the email, the app loads with currency blank as usual. I added 2 text labels next to the currency field with the text property set to varCurrency in one and Param("Curr") in the other and they both render correctly while the Currency field itself shows blank with either of those.
