Help with filters in Powerapps

Hello community,

I'm not sure how to ask this question but I'll have at it.

I'm adding filters to my app in powerapps. Data source is a sharepoint issue list.  I want to add the following labels to the container:

heycanyouhelpme_0-1645248643026.png

I want the label that says -choose field- to show column headers; for the label that says -oper- I want it to show functions like is, is not, is one of etc.; for the -value- label, I want it to allow users to add the value based on the column type. So if it's a choice column, the -value- label will default to a drop down menu with a list of choices from that choice column; if it's a text column, the label will default to a text box.

Can anyone help me?

@heycanyouhelpme Does your DropDown where it says "--choose field--" already has a datasource connected. So, does it already show the FieldNames?

In PowerApps you can't change the Type of a control during runtime. So you can't tell a TextInput to be dropdown based on a condition. You would need to add all the controls to your screen and show/hide them based on a condition.

@PowerRanger The picture is just a sample.  I want to add what's pictured in my app.  I want the drop down box to show the column header.

@heycanyouhelpme one more question. Should the fields shown in that dropdown come in dynamically? Or do you want to use fix values?

@PowerRanger These are fixed values coming directly from the data source.

@heycanyouhelpme maybe my question was not clear. So do you want to show the fields from a SharePoint list which you have configured or do you want to show items from a list. Maybe you could provide a Screenshot of your List and highlite what should be shown in the dropdown.

@PowerRanger I want to show the column headers from a sharepoint list that I created.

@heycanyouhelpme OK. So to that we need to get at least ONE record from that list. The solution won't work if the list is empty!

1. Add a Button to your screen and add this formular to the OnSelect Property:

ClearCollect(
    myCollection,
    DropColumns(
        Filter(
            SampleList,
            ID = 24
        ),
        "{Attachments}",
        "{FilenameWithExtension}",
        "{IsFolder}"
    )
);
Set(
    myColumnHeaders,
    Distinct(
        Ungroup(
            MatchAll(
                JSON(
                    myCollection,
                    JSONFormat.IgnoreBinaryData
                ),
                "([^""]+?)""\s*:"
            ).SubMatches,
            "SubMatches"
        ),
        Value
    )
);

In the first Line you have to exchange "SampleList" with your SharePoint Datasource name. You also have to update the filter condition so it will get ONE record back. This will only be the case if there is at least one item in your SharePoint List. Check its ID and use it in the Filter above.

2. Add a dropdown to your screen. Set its Items property to: myColumnHeaders

3. Click the button

You will notice that the dropdown contains a lot of columns you are probably not aware of that they exists. These are all BuildIn Columns by sharepoint. In my example above I already have removed some of them like

{Attachments} and {FilenameWithExtension} and {IsFolder}. You need to add the other columns you don't want to show in your dropdown.

So now we have solved your first question.

The values for "--Oper--". Are they fixed values or do they come also from a datasource.

Please let me know if the first part works for you.

@PowerRanger it doesn't seem to be working.  This is what I have for the button property:

ClearCollect(myCollection,DropColumns(Filter('RPA TRACKER',Program Office=ITD),"{Attachments}","{FilenameWithExtension}","{IsFolder}"));Set(myColumnHeaders,Distinct(Ungroup(MatchAll(JSON(myCollection,JSONFormat.IgnoreBinaryData),"([^""]+?)""\s*:").SubMatches,"SubMatches"),Value));

I added a dropdown item and changed the items property to myColumnHeaders

@heycanyouhelpme have you placed the Formular in the OnSelect property of the Button? Have you clicked on the button?

Do you get any errors?
