Highlight new items in gallery - show new item icon

When you submit a new record to a Sharepoint list it comes up with a little icon over the 'Title' column to show that this is a new item (submitted over the last day or so) eg:

I would like to do something similar to my powerapp gallery. Does anyone have any suggestions as to the best way to do this?

Either, showing an icon on any items which are new to the list over the last 24 hours, or preferably, any items which are 'new' since the current user last viewed the app (which I imagine is a little more complicated)

I googled and most similar questions revolved around the last submitted items by the user, but I want all new items not just the latest by the current user

Hello - You can add an icon to the gallery and set its visible property true/false based on below condition.

Visible = If(ThisItem.CreatedBy.Email = User().Email && IsToday(ThisItem.Created), true, false)

Thank you - I missed out the User.Email bit as I wanted it for anyone's new items to show as new, not just the current user, but that worked a charm. 🙂

Hello misc - did you find a way to archieve the goal: "any items which are 'new' since the current user last viewed the app (which I imagine is a little more complicated)". I´m looking for a soluction to check if new items where uploaded to the app since last user login to highlight them. After next login the "highlight" icon, for example "new" should be unvisible for this user. Or the highlight icon should be visible for a defined number of logins of this user (for example: for the next 3 logins).

with the help of @LaurensM we were able to find a solution that works well.

I would like to share this information and code with you. You need a list which is connected to your App (in my case "App Logins").

For the OnStart property in your App you can use the following code (good inline comments from Super User @LaurensM to understand the code).

Your Visible property for the icon which should  highlight the new records will look as follows:

//Only display when the user logs in for the first time or hasn't logged in since the record was modified
IsBlank(gblLastLogin.'Last Login') || gblLastLogin.'Last Login' < ThisItem.Modified

Really nice solution without any duplicate users in the "App Logins" list.
