How do I get the App name inside my canvas app?

I want to store the name of the App in an SQL Table using a Flow. How can I get this name inside the app, for instance in the Text property of a label?

Hi @stapes ,

Do you want to retrieve the running App’s name and use its value in a Flow?

Yes, you can directly retrieve the App name.

  • Add the “Power Apps for Makers” connector to data sources.

  • Find your app id in App’s detail page39.jpg40.jpg
  • Insert a Label or TextInput Box, set its Text property to:

PowerAppsforMakers.GetApp("Paste Your App ID HERE").properties.displayName

  • Now you could use the Label.Text value in your Flow.

Hi,

As per my understanding, there are no direct properties to get the App Name.

but there is Workaround.
you can achieve by Create a Global variable and Set the App name (Like HarCode on App Start.

Set(AppName,"AppName");

And you can use anywhere in the app this variable.

@VijayTailor - I can do that, but that doesn't really help me. I am trying to eliminate the possibility of human error. The App name is subject to change on deployment.

This reply is just to slightly build upon the correct information from both @VijayTailor and @v-jefferni.  We have just started to roll out Apps and wanted to create a generic "About Screen" on all of them and so we came up with this.  I am unable how ever to find the code that unlocks the Version Name - highlighted by a red Box on one of the attached images.  If anyone knows where this is I would really appreciate it.

  1. Add in PowerAppsforMakers
  2. Use Global variable in On Start
  3. Create Collection
  4. Create About Page with Navigation to and back from it.
  5. Place either a Gallery or Table on it doesn't matter which as they both use the same data and columns.

You then end up with either of these on the page.about table obfus.pngaboutGallery obfus.png

The details for doing these are found in the attached text file and where the information comes from is two places. The Apps Details Page or the Apps Versions page.Version Screen obfus bits.pngDetails obfus.png

Only one of the lines needed modifying and was to convert the date output to text so that it matched the collection text field.  There are other values that can be found by using the official documentation. Link

Lastly remember that any of the values can be use in a label property easily with string interpolation now.

Label property:  Text = $"Name: {PowerAppsforMakers.GetApp(ThisAppId).properties.displayName}"

Hope this helps.

But this only works if you manually pick the App-ID. When you move the app to another environment the app-id is different again. How can you retrieve the app name from the running instance without manually assigning the app-id?

I would look at adding an environmental variable to the solution that the power App is packaged into and replacing the value "Whatever_the_ID_is_of_your_app_from_app_details_page" in the docx file above with the "variable name" and starting from there.  You may have to run the App initially once it's deployed in the new environment to get the APPID in the web URL and then put that in the environment  variable in the solution.
