I have created a collection from my SharePoint list, added columns to it and after making changes I want to patch some columns back to the SharePoint list. I want to patch 3 column values, one column is date time type, second is a choice type column and third one is single line text. How do I do this?
Hello @matix003 ,
In order to help you to the best of my ability, I need to know a few more things about your app:
- How do you collect data from your SharePoint?
- How do you update your collection from Power Apps?
- And then, what user's interaction are you looking for to submit changes to SharePoint?
A bold and early suggestion would be to nest "UpdateIf()" inside "ForAll()" to apply your modifications on each element of the SharePoint list based on the Power Apps collection.
ForAll(PowerAppsCollection,
UpdateIf(SharePointList, ID = ThisRecord.ID,
{DateTime : ThisRecord.DateTime,
Choice : {Value:ThisRecord.Choice},
Text : ThisRecord.Text}
)
)
- I have a gallery connected to my SharePoint list. My SharePoint list has been created from an excel file.
- In PowerApps I am creating a collection , adding some columns like this
ClearCollect(DailyAtt,AddColumns(AttendanceSheet,"IsChosen",false,"TDate",DatePicker1.SelectedDate));
I have a dropdown in my gallery which I am patching to the collection on change-
Patch(DailyAtt,ThisItem,{Att:Dropdown1.SelectedText});
There is a column 'Status' for deleting records. That is a single line text.
-After the dropdown, date and status column changes for the respective rows should be submitted from the collection to the SP.
I have some doubts regarding the code you have posted.
{DateTime : ThisRecord.DateTime, Choice : {Value:ThisRecord.Choice}, Text : ThisRecord.Text}
Here instead of DateTime do I put my SP list column name? and in ThisRecord.DateTime will DateTime will be changed to column name or remain as it is?
Sorry, I'm still not certain where you want to patch your changes in your SharePoint list from your Power Apps collection.
You added three columns in your collection. Those three columns don't exist in the list I presume, so I'm a bit confused where you wish to save the data.
But in short, yes. "DateTime" in my code should refer to your SharePoint list, while "ThisRecord.DateTime" refers to the Power Apps collection's value.
However, you want to submit the changes when the user change the value of the dropdown. If I may, I wouldn't recommend this approach as it can sometimes act a little bit "glitchy". Instead, a "save button" on each row would be more stable.
Anyway, by adding the code inside the gallery's row ("OnChange" of dropdown for example) then you can refer to the selected/modified element with "ThisItem".
UpdateIf(AttendanceSheet, ID = ThisItem.ID,
{DateTime: ThisItem.TDate,
Att: ThisItem.Att}
)
"DateTime" and "Att" refers to the SharePoint list's columns.
All "ThisItem" refer to the Power Apps collection's element the user is currently changing.
My SP has the columns Date, Badge, Att, Status and Name. The columns in the collection which I am patching to my SP has these columns. And for a different purpose I have created columns 'IsChosen' in my collection. I created a new date column in my collection as well. But I am trying to patch this date with the date column in the sharepoint list. Should I have only date column in my collection?
With the above code I tried-
It says UpdateIf has invalid arguments.
If you're using "ForAll()", you should use "ThisRecord" instead of "ThisItem".
"ThisRecord" refers to the currently read record of the iteration in "ForAll()", whereas "ThisItem" refers to the element in the gallery.
In addition, using "ForAll()" in the "OnChange" of your dropdown may make your app a bit laggy. If you want to update after changing the value of the dropdown, then use "UpdateIf()" and "ThisItem".
However, if you use a component outside the gallery to commit the changes, then you can use "ForAll()", "UpdateIf()" and "ThisRecord".
Hi @WiZey ,
I am using ThisItem in OnChange of my dropdown like this - Patch(DailyAtt,ThisItem,{Att:Dropdown1.SelectedText});
And there is an Update button to update the SP for which I wrote(Changed ThisItem to ThisRecord now)-
ForAll(DailyAtt,
UpdateIf(AttendaceSheet, Badge = ThisRecord.Badge,
{Date: ThisRecord.TDate,
Att:ThisRecord.Att,
Status: ThisRecord.Status}
)
)
I have the same error 'UpdateIf has invalid arguments' and under AttendanceSheet I get 'Name isn't valid. The identifier isn't recognized'.
Regards
My bad. 😅
I am getting just this now for TDate - Name isn't valid. The identifier isn't recognized'. I checked my collection and it has the column TDate.
